Edit a Dangerous Goods Chemical Record

Note: To enter a new chemical record, see Add a Dangerous Goods Chemical Record.

To edit a Dangerous Goods record:

  1. On the My Services tab, select Create/Edit Chemical Records. The Dangerous Goods Chemical Record Editor window appears.

  2. Edit the fields as needed:

  3. Reference Number - Identifies each dangerous good to be shipped.

  4. Regulation set:

  5. 49CFR - For US domestic shipments of Dangerous Goods and shipments of Dangerous Goods from US 48 to Canada (Standard Service only).

  6. IATA - For International Dangerous Goods shipments.

  7. TDG - For shipments (Standard Service only) of Dangerous Goods from Canada to US 48 or Canada to Canada.

  8. ADR - For Europe domestic Ground Dangerous Goods shipments.

  9. Reportable Quantity - For Dangerous Goods that exceed the reportable quantity limits stated in 49CFR Part 172.101 Appendix A, type RQ.

  10. Proper Shipping Name - The name assigned to each regulated material and listed in 49CFR Part 172.101 or IATA Section 4.2 List of Dangerous Goods.

  11. Proper Shipping Name in Local Language - For ADR regulation set only.

  12. Technical Name - A recognized chemical name currently used in scientific handbooks, journals, and texts. Some generic or N.O.S. proper shipping names require the addition of a technical name.

  13. Technical Name in Local Language - For ADR regulation set only.

  14. Class Division Number - Every proper shipping name has a corresponding hazard class or division number assigned to it, including ORM-D.

  15. Subrisk Class - The class if the material has associated subrisk class or classes.

  16. Identification Number - Every proper shipping name has an identification number assigned to it. The ID is listed in 49CFR Part 172.101 or IATA Section 4.2 List of Dangerous Goods.

  17. Packing Group - Reflects the potential degree of danger represented by the regulated material.

  18. Additional Description - Any additional information that may be required by regulation.

  19. Quantity - The numerical quantity of material in the package.

  20. Units of Measure - The unit of measure used in association with the quantity of material in the package.

  21. Number of Packages - The number of inner packages used to contain the regulated material.

  22. Packaging Type - The type of outer package used to contain the regulated material, such as Fibreboard Box.

  23. Record Identifier 1, Record Identifier 2, and Record Identifier 3 - Valid values for these fields are 0 through 9, A through Z, and special characters for a total of 15 characters.

  24. Transport Category - A category that ranges from 0 to 4 in the ADR regulation set which indicates the amount of points assigned to a dangerous goods package to be in compliance with the fully regulated vehicle load exemption (ADR 1.1.3.6). This field applies to ADR regulation set.

  25. Tunnel Restriction Code - A code which indicates the degree of hazard that the transport of a dangerous good package presents to road tunnels if an accident were to occur (ADR 8.6.3.1). This field applies to ADR regulation set.

  26. Regulatory Quantity -

  27. Limited Quantity – indication that the quantity of the Dangerous Goods commodity is within the Limited Quantities range. Limited Quantities is available for ADR, IATA, and 49CFR regulation sets.

  28. Fully Regulated – indication that the Dangerous Goods commodity is a fully regulated Dangerous Good. Fully Regulated shipments must be prepared, packed, marked, labelled and documented in full compliance with the regulations. Shippers are responsible for these activities and must consult the regulations to ensure compliance.

  29. Packing Instructions - The Packing Instruction number of Limited Quantity Packing Instruction Number used to prepare the package. This is applicable to International Dangerous Goods Shipments only.

  30. Transportation Mode - The mode of transportation associated with the shipment. All UPS Next Day Air, Second Day Air, 3-Day Select, and International shipments must be prepared in accordance with Passenger Aircraft restrictions. For ground shipments, select Ground. Cargo Aircraft Only is allowed for Dangerous Goods Class 1-8 commodities in quantities up to the CAO limit from CAO approved shippers.

  31. Label Required - The name of the hazard or labels required for the package.

  32. Emergency Phone - An emergency phone number to be used while the material is in transportation. Valid values for this field are numbers; periods “.”; parentheses “( )”; dashes ”-”; plus sign “+”; and alpha characters ‘EXT’ and ‘OPT’ in lower or upper case. For numbers in the US, the layout is 1-area code-seven digit number.

  33. ER Registrant - The contact name associated with the Emergency Phone. Data entered cannot match the Emergency Phone number.

  1. Click the OK button. The record is validated, and the Chemical Table is updated.
