Notes:
The Address Validation and Classification Tool validates all US 50 addresses. It does not validate any other addresses, including Army Post Office (APO), Fleet Post Office (FPO), or Diplomatic Post Office (DPO) Ship To addresses.
To validate the address automatically during shipment processing, set the Validate Ship To Address shipper preference. See Preferences Tab in the Shipper Editor Window.
To classify the address automatically when you validate an address, set the Classify Ship To Address system preference. See Set Miscellaneous System Preferences. The system preference does not apply to Canada addresses, which are not validated.
Use the Address Validation and Classification Tool to validate an address interactively from either of the following locations:
Ship To tab in the Shipping window.
Address Book Editor window.
To validate an address interactively on the Ship To tab in the Shipping window:
Type the Ship To address on the Ship To tab in the Shipping window.
Press the F8 key (or select Addresses and then Validate Ship To Address on the Home tab). During validation, various messages appear. To stop the validation process, click the Cancel button.
After the validation process is complete:
If the address is valid, the following message appears: "The Ship To address displayed is valid." Click the OK button and skip to step 6.
If the address is invalid because of an invalid ZIP+4 and automatic reconciliation of ZIP+4 is active, the Address Book is updated. Skip to step 6.
If the address is invalid because of an invalid ZIP+4 and automatic reconciliation of ZIP+4 is inactive, the UPS Interactive Address Reconciler window appears. Continue with step 4.
Use the suggested candidates or the range candidates on the right to update the original address information:
If suggested candidates are available, use the scroll bars to review the candidates, select the appropriate candidate, and click the Accept button. The address information for the selected suggested candidate replaces the original address information on the left.
If range candidates are available, use the scroll bar to view the candidates, determine if the address falls within a valid address range, and manually correct the original address information on the left side.
Tip: To change the address information back to the original address information, click the Restore Original Address button.
Use the buttons in the lower left to complete reconciliation for the displayed address:
Click the Save button to save the address displayed on the left. If the address is valid, the address is marked Valid and saved in the Address Book, and the following message appears: "The Ship To address displayed is valid." Click the OK button. If the original address was altered, the address is submitted for interactive validation again.
Click the Keep Original button to save the original address, regardless of its validity. The address is saved in the Address Book, and the Shipping window appears.
Continue normal Shipping activities.
To validate an address interactively in the Address Book Editor window:
On the Home tab, select Addresses and then Address Book. The Address Book Editor window appears.
Type the address information or click the down arrow in the Company or Name box and select an existing company or name.
Click the Validate Address button.
If the Classify Ship To Address system preference is active, the Address Classification Tool verifies the Residential check box.
If the Address Classification Tool agrees with your classification, the Address Book Editor appears.
If the Address Classification Tool does not agree with your classification, the following message appears: "The UPS Classification for the current Ship To address is different from your current classification. The residential classification has been changed." After clicking the OK button, the Address Book Editor window appears with the changed classification in the Residential check box.
After the validation process is complete:
If the address is valid, the Address Book Editor window appears, Status displays Validated, and Date displays the validated date. Skip to step 8.
If the address is invalid because of an invalid ZIP+4 and automatic reconciliation of ZIP+4 is active, the Address Book is updated, the Address Book Editor window appears, Status displays Validated, and Date displays the validated date. Skip to step 8.
If the address is invalid because of an invalid ZIP+4 and automatic reconciliation of ZIP+4 is inactive, the UPS Interactive Address Reconciler window appears. Continue with step 6.
