Process Infectious Substance Category A Shipment

Infectious Substance Category A are substances that are capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, or property when transported in commerce. UPS accepts packages containing Infectious Substance Category A on a contract-only basis; a shipper must also be enabled for the Dangerous Goods and Proactive Response contracts in order to use this option. Infectious Substance Category A chemicals are Class Division Number 6.2 and include: UN 2814 - Infectious substances, affecting humans and UN2900 - Infectious substances, affecting animals.

All dangerous goods tendered to UPS for shipment must be classified, packaged, marked,and labeled in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials in effect at the time of shipment and all applicable government laws and regulations.

Apply this option as follows:

  1. Create a shipment and select the Dangerous Goods check box under Shipment Options on the Options tab.

Note: refer to the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Dangerous Goods for Origin/Destination locations and allowable UPS Services for Infectious Substance Category A.

  1. Select the Infectious Substance Category A check box on the Package Dangerous Goods tab. Allowable regulation sets are IATA or 49CFR based on Origin/Destination.

Note: Proactive Response will automatically be selected for Infectious Substance Category A packages.

  1. Select the Infectious Substance Category A chemical (UN 2814 or UN 2900) from the UPS Chemical table, Personal Chemical table or an External Source Table. Complete all other required shipment and Dangerous Goods fields.

Applicable Dangerous Goods documentation based on regulation set, must be provided.

Restrictions apply:

A maximum of 2 chemicals are allowed in Infectious Substance Category packages.
