Electronic Export Information

About Filing Your Electronic Export Information (EEI)

Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing is generally required by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for U.S. exports that contain a single commodity's value exceeding US$2,500.00. All EEI information is provided to the U.S. Census Bureau and is used for export compliance and governmental reporting.

Formerly known as Shipper's Export Declaration (SED), the EEI is filed electronically with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (ACE), either by you independently, or by UPS on your behalf.

When shipping with UPS, you have a variety of filing options. Feel free to choose the option that works best for your business:

  • Self-file, free of charge, at ACE. Refer to the UPS Port of Export Guide to determine from which port the shipment left the U.S. (required by ACE).
  • Print an EEI from a UPS shipping system, such as UPS WorldShip®, Internet Shipping, or UPS CampusShip®. Provide UPS with a completed Power of Attorney form to file on your behalf. A nominal fee for using this option will apply. For more information regarding the fee, refer to additional charges for international shipments.
  • Provide your own company's printed EEI or a completed commercial invoice. Completion of a Power of Attorney form is required, and a nominal fee for using this option will apply.

Note: Shipments to Canada are exempt from the EEI process unless an export license or permit is required.
