Delivering on Our Commitment to Provide Urgent Humanitarian Relief

We make it a priority to extend our logistics expertise beyond the traditional supply chain. When a disaster strikes, we are there--providing philanthropic dollars, logistics know-how, transportation assets, and passionate and skilled global employees to lend a helping hand. With the help of the UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS established by founder Jim Casey in 1951, we collaborates with partner organizations to provide urgent response relief to those in need.

September is National Preparedness Month

Do your part to help your family and community through an emergency or natural disaster by participating in National Preparedness Month, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Follow these four easy steps during National Preparedness Month provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure you're prepared for an emergency:

  1. Prepare an Emergency Kit--Organize emergency supplies including water, food, and other disaster supplies like a blanket, flashlight, batteries, and radio.
  2. Make an Emergency Plan--Create a plan with friends and family of how you will contact each other, where you will meet, and what to do in the event of an emergency.
  3. Be Informed--Check the media (radio, TV, cell phone alerts) for information about shelters and evacuation plans.
  4. Get Involved--Take first aid courses, undergo emergency response training, and volunteer to support first responders and make your community better prepared to respond to an emergency situation. Contact Citizens Corps or the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) for more information on how you can volunteer to make your community safer.

Going Further with Humanitarian Allies

CARE and Aidmatrix are two organizations that the UPS Foundation collaborates with when responding to global emergencies.

CARE is an international humanitarian relief organization with a mission to relieve extreme poverty, and Aidmatrix applies supply chain management technologies to help organizations deliver goods, money, and services to conflicted regions and areas hit by natural disasters.

"We have logisticians that have accompanied CARE to far-flung locations in the world where they operate," says Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. "In the area of preparedness, we have been able to develop technologies that help CARE track their commodities more effectively so they can more efficiently run their supply chain."

UPS helped CARE implement a software system, built and powered by The Aidmatrix Foundation, that tracks global projects and supplies.
