To remain ahead of these trends and ensure our industry leadership for another 112 years, we embarked on a journey in 2018 to transform nearly every aspect of our business, from leadership and culture to operations and our go-to-market strategy.

By embracing a mindset of continuous transformation, we are shaping a future in which more people prosper and enterprises run more efficiently while conserving resources for future generations.

We just published UPS’s 17th annual Sustainability Report, Creating Our Tomorrow, Sustainably, which highlights our sustainability accomplishments and challenges during 2018, including progress toward our 2020 and 2025 goals in support of the environment, our workforce and the communities we serve.

The digital-first interactive report showcases six ways we are advancing sustainability for our company, our communities and the planet:

1. Bold ideas

We are responding to fast-changing trends and customer needs by fostering a culture focused on innovation and agility and encouraging UPSers at all levels to think like entrepreneurs and act in bold new ways.

We are creating new customer solutions such as Ware2Go, which matches available warehouse space and fulfillment services with merchants who need the space, and UPS My Choice® for business, which simplifies shipping and receiving for small- and medium-sized businesses. We are expanding our portfolio of services, products and technology solutions to enable our customers to do more.

2. Innovative technologies

Our aim is for UPS to always be the fastest, most technology-enabled and responsive company in our industry. Through our smart logistics network, we are also building a sustainable, energy-efficient network.

Since 2009, we have invested more than $1 billion in alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and infrastructure globally, with more than 10,000 of these vehicles in our fleet today.

We are also a leader in using advanced technologies to solve operational and customer needs, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, operations research and drone technology, among others.

3. Diversity and inclusion

UPS employees, customers, suppliers and community partners touch all parts of the global economy and come from all walks of life.

By cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment, we are engaging employees, accelerating innovation and enhancing customer service. Diversity of all kinds helps us generate new and different ideas, which are critical to developing the next generation-solutions to help our customers.

4. Collaborative partnerships

We know that a rising tide lifts all boats, and often more can be accomplished when like-minded companies and organizations work together to achieve big things.

Whether we are collaborating with cities on last-mile delivery models or creating sustainable solutions to help customers minimize their environmental impacts, partnerships make it all possible.

A shared focus on sustainability and efficiency enables us to work toward solutions for common challenges.

5. Talent and teamwork

With more than 481,000 UPSers spanning the globe, we are committed to fostering a culture where people can thrive. We are reinventing the UPS employee experience and introducing new recruiting approaches, training and development opportunities and industry-leading health and safety programs.

The engagement of our people in developing and enhancing our safety programs reinforces a culture of safety across the organization.

6. Community resilience

Logistics is not just about delivering packages and freight. It is also about managing the flow of medical aid in remote areas and relief supplies in the wake of disasters.

UPS has a long legacy of delivering relief where and when it’s needed most. By tapping into the expertise and experience of UPSers, we are also helping communities become more resilient and strengthening their capacity to withstand crises.

A mindset of continuous transformation, combined with the courage to innovate fearlessly, will ensure our continued strong and sustainable growth into the future.
