Sending a certified letter with The UPS Store® services is easy and convenient, but what exactly is Certified Mail® and when might you use this service?
Certified Mail® is a service offered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) that provides both the sender with a mailing receipt and electronic verification that an article was delivered or that a delivery attempt was made. Signature confirmation can be requested at the time of mailing by requesting Return Receipt Service to the sender that the article was received. You can have the option of receiving the return receipt by mail or electronically for your convenience.
In addition to Certified Mail®, many other USPS products are available at The UPS Store® locations.
Perhaps you’re mailing a commercially sensitive letter or submitting legal or financial documents. Sending Certified Mail® offers peace of mind. It establishes a unique identifier such as a paper trail or electronic verification that the letter was sent and received.
It’s difficult to claim that something was never actually sent if the record shows otherwise.
Sending a Certified Mail letter with The UPS Store® is straightforward. Follow these four simple steps:
1. Visit The UPS Store location and ask to purchase *Certified Mail service with First-Class Mail®, First-Class Package Service or Priority Mail®
2. Complete a Certified Mail® slip or ask if it is available electronically. You may be asked to present proof of identity.
3. Select your desired mail service depending on how quickly you need the mail piece to arrive. Choose from a range of USPS delivery options available at The UPS Store®. You will receive a unique 18-digit USPS tracking number.
4. Go to USPS.com and enter your Certified Mail number or call the dedicated USPS service line to check on the delivery status of your letter.
For peace of mind request proof of delivery by collecting a signature with a return receipt. The Certified Mail® Return Receipt - a green card attached to your certified mail piece - is mailed back to you once the recipient signs for the article. You may opt to receive email confirmation instead.
Adding restricted delivery, adult signature required or adult signature restricted delivery are other options. With restricted delivery options, only the named recipient (or authorized agent), only an adult (individual that is 21 years of age or older) or only the specified recipient (or agent) who is 21 years of age or older can sign for the article. As a result, you know for sure that your addressee personally received the letter.
Ask your The UPS Store® associate about the additional fees associated with these services.
*Certified Mail, First-Class Mail, First-Class Package Service, and Priority Mail are trademarks owned by the United States Postal Service.
Remember that somebody needs to sign for Certified Mail®. If nobody at the address is available to sign, the postal worker is not permitted to deliver the letter. If the letter subsequently goes uncollected from the Post Office, it will be returned to sender.
You can still send Certified Mail® to a P.O. Box address. The P.O. Box tenant will receive a notification to sign for the letter at the Post Office counter.
To send Certified Mail® or Certified Mail® Return Receipt, stop by any of the conveniently located The UPS Store locations and ask an associate for help. Take advantage of other USPS services available at The UPS Store, such as buying postage stamps and getting your photos and documents ready for your .
Make sending Certified Mail® easy while enjoying all The UPS Store has to offer.
