Military personnel know about hard work and dedication. They understand the importance of leadership and accountability. And at UPS, we value those qualities--that's why we hire an average of 5,000 United States veterans each year.

We work closely with a number of veteran, disability, and Wounded Warrior organizations to promote career opportunities with UPS, including:

Our signed Statement of Support for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)--along with our two-time recognition as the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award--highlight our commitment to the ESGR mission and our work to help servicemen and women gain and maintain employment.

Business Commitment

We also assist and partner with the U.S. military in other ways, providing practical experience and making business ownership easier.

  • The UPS Store--Offer business experience and employment opportunities through their 36 stores operating on 33 different U.S. military bases
  • VetFran--Reduce The UPS Store franchise fee by $10,000 for qualified veterans, and as part of Operation Enduring Opportunity, 20 veterans will have the entire fee waived. Currently, veterans own more than 250 locations, with more than 150 franchises awarded to first-time veterans since 2004.
  • Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF)--Make 15 percent of our cargo fleet available to the Department of Defense to supplement military aircraft when emergency airlifts are required (since 1986)
  • American Corporate Partners--Participate in nationwide mentoring program helping veterans transition to the civilian workforce

Veterans at UPS

Eight percent of our workforce--more than 25,000 men and women--are U.S. veterans, and approximately 2,000 employees are on military leave on any given day.

As part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Joining Forces initiative, we've pledged to hire another 25,000 veterans by 2018.

We promote job opportunities on more than 12 veteran-related sites as well as hosting a veterans section on upsjobs.com.
