New Regulations in 2020 for Lithium Battery Shippers

Shippers of Lithium Batteries should be aware that new IATA shipping regulations come into force on January 1, 2020. These mandate that UN38.3 test summary documents must be made electronically available upon request. While UPS will not require a test summary document, shippers are asked to note that service may be disrupted if they are unable to comply when requested. The requirement applies in relation to all IATA air shipments of lithium ion and metal batteries whether alone, contained in equipment, packed with equipment or powering a vehicle.
