Update on U.S. Import De Minimis Exemption Suspension

Effective August 29, 2025, the de minimis exemption for low-value shipments (under $800 USD) to the U.S. has been suspended, meaning all U.S. imports, regardless of value, origin, or entry mode, will be subject to applicable U.S. duties and taxes that may be charged to the receiver of the goods if the shipper did not prepay these fees in advance.

This change has resulted in a substantial rise of formal customs clearances, which has led to increased processing times and delays particularly for shipments that require input from other government agencies like FDA eligible shipments.

It is now also mandatory for all shipments to the U.S. to include information pertaining to the country-of-origin for each commodity on your commercial invoices when creating your shipment.

Actions to Take:

• Ensure complete and accurate commercial invoice information, including product details, country-of-origin, HTSUS code, quantity, and value.
• Include information pertaining to the country-of-origin for each commodity on your commercial invoices when creating your shipment.
• For shipments requiring formal entries, provide an Importer Tax ID with EIN or SSN.
• Include the recipient’s email and contact information for duty and tax collection.

Potential delays due to Poland reintroducing border controls with Lithuania and Germany

Since Monday, 7 July 2025, Poland has reintroduced border controls at its borders with Lithuania and Germany. These controls took effect at midnight on 7 July and are scheduled to remain in place until 5 August 2025. This period may be extended.

The reintroduction of these controls may affect road traffic capacity and result in transport delays. As a result, UPS deliveries crossing the borders with Germany and Lithuania may be delayed.
