What are the ID requirements for tendering a shipment to UPS?

You'll need one of the following forms of identification to pick up your package at a UPS Access Point location:

  • Option 1: Present a government-issued photo ID, such as a Federal Electoral Institute (IFE), passport, professional or military ID. The full name on the ID must match the full name on the package label. Our application will capture your name and signature.

  • Option 2: Present a government-issued photo ID along with your shipper-provided package release code (if required).*

If you need someone else to pick up your package on your behalf, they'll need to bring both a photocopy of your photo ID as well as their own. The full name on the photocopied ID must match the full name on the package label. The UPS Access Point location will not retain the photocopy of your ID, but our application will capture the name and signature of the person picking up your shipment on your behalf.

If your shipper provides a package release code for your delivery, your friend or family member can present their photo ID and your code to pick up your package.*

*Note: While we'll notify you on shipment notifications or tracking status updates if you need a code to pick up your package, your shipper will provide the code directly to you.The package release code is a 4-6 digit numerical code that is provided by the shipper and is different from the tracking number.
