UPS Supply Chain Solutions for Healthcare Shippers FAQs
Healthcare companies operate in one of the most demanding industries in the world. Your logistics partner must meet those expectations with accuracy and operational excellence.
Healthcare companies choose UPS because it combines global reach, proven reliability, and deep industry expertise into one connected network. The UPS Healthcare® facilities offer more than 19.2 million square feet of cGMP and GDP-compliant space worldwide, backed by real-time visibility tools, a 24/7/365 Control Tower, and a growing network of temperature-controlled cross-docks.
Whether you're shipping vaccines, medical devices, or lab samples, UPS gives you the tools and support to protect product integrity from origin to destination, all while keeping your budget and compliance needs in view.

Symphony works hand in hand with the UPS Healthcare® Control Tower to deliver:
- Near-real-time shipment tracking across air and ocean freight
- Custom rules and alerts tailored to your shipment needs
- A free starter tier, UPS Supply Chain Symphony View, for companies just getting started
- UPS Digital Collaboration tools that keep your contact information and shipment preferences up to date
UPS delivers speed and reliability through its own and third-party airline, dedicated cool corridors, and a track record backed by data. UPS Healthcare® Cold Chain Air Freight Plus shipments achieve 98.64% on-time performance and 99.94% deviation-free performance, according to UPS Shipment Data Systems through 2026年7月.
By using UPS Airlines on key cold chain lanes, UPS maintains greater control over routing, handling, and timing, so your time-sensitive shipments, from vaccines to diagnostic samples, arrive when and how they're supposed to.
UPS supports medical device replenishment through a global network of storage and fulfillment facilities built specifically for healthcare. With more than 19.2 million square feet of cGMP and GDP-compliant distribution space, UPS Healthcare® can house, manage, and ship device inventory close to where it's needed most.
This infrastructure, combined with visibility tools, helps ensure your inventory is replenished consistently, reducing the risk of stockouts that could affect patient care.
UPS transports temperature-sensitive biologics using a purpose-built cold chain network that includes 20 global cross-dock facilities, with seven more opening by the end of the year. These sites, located in cities like Amsterdam, Singapore, and Chicago, offer cold chain staging for shipments requiring +2°C to +8°C refrigeration or +15°C to +25°C controlled room temperature.
Facilities are equipped with:
- Thermal blankets and monitoring devices
- Dry ice for deep-frozen shipments
- Inbound and outbound consolidation and preconditioning
Together, these capabilities help protect biologics like vaccines and specialty pharmaceuticals from temperature excursions during transit.
UPS Healthcare® operates a growing global network built to move healthcare products safely across borders. With 20 cross-dock facilities strategically located near major airports in cities such as Frankfurt, Shanghai, and Mexico City, and seven more planned by year's end, UPS connects healthcare shippers to markets around the world.
This network supports a wide range of active and passive temperature-controlled shipments, giving you the reach to grow internationally without sacrificing the oversight your products need.
UPS uses a combination of certifications and consistent, repeatable processes applied across its global network. Many UPS Healthcare® facilities hold GDP, TAPA, and ISO certifications, and 18 key global locations, including Singapore, Amsterdam, and Chicago, have earned IATA CEIV Pharma certification, with nine more sites planned.
These certifications confirm that UPS facilities meet the highest standards for handling pharmaceutical air cargo, helping you maintain quality compliance and reduce the risk of corrective actions (CAPAs).
The UPS Healthcare® Control Tower is a dedicated team that provides 24/7/365 proactive monitoring for both cold chain and non-temperature-controlled healthcare freight shipments. Rather than waiting for a problem to be reported, the Control Tower proactively monitors shipments and steps in the moment a risk appears.
When a shipment is delayed or in distress, the UPS Healthcare Control Tower:
- Engages UPS operations teams directly to resolve issues quickly
- Coordinates dry ice replenishment or refrigerated storage to help prevent temperature excursions
- Follows a defined escalation path, up to the vice president level for critical shipments, if a response isn't received
- Keeps you informed with proactive updates from identification through final delivery
This constant oversight helps protect shipment integrity and gives you one less thing to worry about, whether you're shipping specialty biologics or medical supplies.
