Missing or Invalid Account Number Fee

An account number is invalid if it is not the correct account number for the bill-to party, or if it is the account number for a consignee or third party who fails to pay the shipping charges.

  • A charge per shipment will be assessed for domestic (if available) and international shipments with a missing or invalid payer account number. Additionally, if the consignee or third party fails to pay the shipping charges, the original shipper will be billed a refusal fee plus the shipping charges.

UPS carbon neutral

UPS carbon neutral is an option for shippers who are conscious about their climate impact and are doing something positive about it. Using UPS carbon neutral lets you demonstrate your commitment to climate change, and enables you and your package recipients to share in that commitment. When you select UPS carbon neutral, a flat fee will be added to your bill for each package selected.

Additional Handling Charge

Additional Handling applies to the following:

  • Any article that is encased in an outside shipping container made of metal, wood, hard plastic, soft plastic (e.g. plastic bag) or expanded polystyrene foam (e.g. styrofoam)
  • Any cylindrical item, such as a barrel, drum, pail, or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container
  • Any package with the longest side exceeding 48 inches (122 cm) or its second-longest side exceeding 30 inches (76 cm)
  • Any package with an actual weight greater than 70 pounds (32 kg)
  • Each package in a shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 70 pounds (32 kg) and the weight for each package is not specified on the source document or the UPS automated shipping system used

UPS also reserves the right to assess the Additional Handling Charge for any package that, in UPS's sole discretion, requires special handling.

Address Correction

An additional charge may be billed to the shipper for unsuccessful delivery because of an incorrect address.

Extended Area and Remote Area Surcharges

Extended Area Surcharge
UPS provides a pickup delivery service in extended, as well as urban, areas. An additional charge applies for each shipment that is picked up or delivered in an extended area.

Remote Area Surcharge
This surcharge is applied for delivery to or pickup from an area beyond UPS extended areas, which are less accessible for pickups and deliveries (domestic and international services).

Disbursement Fee

In order to expedite customs clearance, UPS may advance duty and taxes on behalf of the payer, as dictated by the billing option selected. A Disbursement Fee based on the amount advanced will be assessed and billed to the payer. This fee is shown in the Additional Charges table.

Over Maximum Limits Fee

Packages with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds (70 kg), or that exceed 108 inches (274 cm) in length or a total of 157 inches (400 cm) in length and girth combined, as measured to determine their billable weight, are not accepted for transportation. These packages are subject to an Over Maximum Limits surcharge, in addition to all other applicable charges, if found in the UPS small package system.

UPS Paperless Invoice

UPS Paperless Invoice allows customers using a UPS online shipping system (for example, Worldship®, UPS Campus Ship, and UPS Internet Shipping) to electronically submit commercial invoice data for clearance. Depending on country-specific customs regulations, this may eliminate the need to affix hard copies of the invoice to the shipment and reduces the possibility of errors or shipment delays due to missing documentation.

This service is offered on a contractual basis and there is no charge incurred.

Brokerage Services

Additional charges may apply for complex customs clearance procedures, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Clearance procedures involving a government agency other than customs
  • Customs Bonds
  • Drawbacks
  • Formal entries involving more than five tariff lines
  • Live entries
  • Marking Attendance
  • Temporary Import Bonds (T.I.B.)

Special Handling for Undeliverable Packages

Packages rejected by the consignee, or that cannot be delivered due to causes beyond the control of UPS, will be held by UPS. The shipper will then be contacted for further instructions. The UPS service guarantee does not apply to Undeliverable Packages that are returned to the sender. An undeliverable returns surcharge will be applied in addition to other applicable charges. See table above for Special Handling of Undeliverable Packages rate.

A surcharge will be imposed for urgent shipments sent via UPS Worldwide Express Plus. Please refer to the above Additional Charges table for more information.

Residential Surcharge

UPS provides delivery service to residential addresses as well as business addresses. A residential delivery is one made to a home, including a business operating out of a home. For each residential delivery, an additional charge per shipment applies.

Oversize Pallet Handling Surcharge

An additional handling fee that would be charged on pallets that exceed the specific dimensions.

Export Declaration Surcharge

An export declaration surcharge applies to each shipment under any one of the following circumstances regardless of the invoice value of the shipment:

  • The shipment contains strategic, controlled or regulated goods as defined under the applicable local laws.
  • The shipper and/or consignee requests for a shipment to be formally declared when formal declaration is not required under the applicable local laws.

Warehouse Storage

A warehouse storage charge per kg, per calendar day will be applied on shipments as follows:

• For the first 2 calendar days of storage, there will be no charges applied to shipments.
• Thereafter, warehouse storage charge will be applied daily to the shipments until such time as the shipments are cleared through customs.

Alternate Broker

Consignees who do not require the full suite of UPS Broker of Choice® services may still, on an ad hoc basis, select their own customs broker for customs clearance of their UPS international shipments. UPS will transfer any customs clearance information and documents it has received from the shipper to the consignee or its appointed third-party broker. A charge per shipment applies.

Import Declaration Surcharge

An import declaration surcharge applies to each shipment under any one of the following circumstances:

  • The shipment contains strategic, controlled or regulated goods as defined under the applicable local laws.
  • The shipper and/or consignee requests for a shipment to be formally declared when formal declaration is not required under the applicable local laws.

Prohibited Item Fee

Shipments that are tendered to UPS in contravention of or not in compliance with applicable laws and regulations or UPS’s terms and conditions of service or contractual service (including, but not limited to, prohibited shipments or shipments that UPS does not accept or regularly provide service for without an exception) are subject to a fee.

This fee is without prejudice and in addition to the shipper’s responsibility for all other sums that UPS may incur and claims against UPS resulting from the contravention or non-compliance.

Post Entry Clearance Fee

UPS may be required to add or modify data declared to customs authorities or other government agencies for clearance purposes based on evidence gathered from or confirmed by the importer or exporter and only upon request by customs authorities, other government agencies or at the request of the shipper or consignee. A per shipment fee will apply.

Large Package Surcharge

A Large Package Surcharge will be applied to each UPS package when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 300 cm, but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 400 cm.

Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 40 kg in addition to the Large Package Surcharge.

An Additional Handling charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied.
