Global Volunteer Month, over 250 UPS employees in Hong Kong contributed more than 1,170 volunteer hours in October. This year, community efforts in Hong Kong focused on charitable organizations that support the needs of children, the elderly and underprivileged.

Each year, UPS’s Global Volunteer Month mobilizes UPS employees around the world to dedicate their time volunteering in the communities in which the company operates. This year, UPS employees devoted 335,000 volunteer hours in October to 240 community service events taking place across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Africa (ISMEA).

UPS employees in Hong Kong participated in the following community initiatives:

  • Created personalized greeting cards with the Playright Children's Play Association for hospitalized children.
  • Read stories to kindergarten students with Bring Me a Book, an organization that encourages literacy in young children through activities that strengthen family and community bonds and foster a love for learning.
  • Prepared food packages for Bo Charity Foundation under its food rescue and assistance program, Food Angel. UPS employees prepared meals that were distributed to underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
  • Prepared meals with people with intellectual disabilities at Fu Hong Society to help them develop life skills and support their integration into the community.

The UPS Foundation, UPS’s philanthropic arm, also donated US$30,000 to Playright Children's Play Association, a non-profit organization that enriches children’s lives through quality play, and US$20,000 to New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, a non-governmental organization that helps people recovering from mental illness achieve quality of life through psychiatric rehabilitation services.

“At UPS, our employees are passionate about contributing to the communities in which we live,” said Lauren Zhao, Managing Director of UPS Hong Kong and Macau. “Together with their families, our employees dedicated their time to meaningful causes during Global Volunteer Month. It’s part of our longstanding tradition, and we will continue to value the opportunity to support the development of the children, elderly and underprivileged who need our help.”

The UPS Foundation leads UPS’s global citizenship programs including Global Volunteer Month every October, which increases the company’s focus on volunteerism and community service. UPS is more than 70% toward reaching its goal of volunteering 20 million hours of community service by the end of 2020.
