Commodity Specific Stipulations
There are special stipulations on the following commodities when shipping to Dominican Republic. If you plan to ship one of the commodities listed below, be sure to adhere to the following stipulations in order to avoid delays and holds at customs.
- "Import of Alcoholic beverages into Dominican Republic is permitted via ISC contract service.
Business to consumer (B2C) shipments and Business to Business (B2B) are allowed into Dominican Republic. Wine, beer and spirits (liquor)."
- All blank checks must be declared as merchandise and the description should say blank checks,when they are submitted as if they were goods and Dominican Republic Customs dispatched.
All signed checks less than US $10,000 can usually come as documents and dispatched.
Checks above US$ 10,000 should come in declared and in the AWB description fill out the amount, the sender and whom it is addressed to. These checks are subject to retention by customs if they choose to detain.
Please note that Customs inspect them and could be seized.

- An import permit is required from the Internal Revenue Ministry
- Medications sent for personal use requires the consignee to obtain a permit from the Dominican Republic Health Department (Salud Publica) so that customs will authorize the clearance.
If the product is for commercial purposes (samples, etc.) then the consignee must have it registered with the Dominican Republic Health Department and once registered, the commercial invoice must be stamped by the Dominican Republic Health Department so that Customs will authorize the release.
- An import permit is required from the Armed Forces Ministry
- Customers must use an authorized UPS / MBE (Mail Boxes Etc) Store, UPS Customer Center or ISC Approved Shipper to ship personal effects.
The UPS Store, Mail Boxes Etc, UPS Customer Center or ISC approved shipper will be required to identify personal effect shipments on the shipping label by placing "Personal Effects" in the Reference Field of a UPS "smart" label or in the Special Instructions Field of a UPS waybill. They must also clearly indicate 'Personal Effects' shipment on the Commercial Invoice.
Personal Effects are classified as used items (owned for a minimum of 6 months) intended for the consignee's personal use. Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis. "Personal Effects" must be clearly stated on the invoice and goods description.
All of the following documents must be scanned into DIS/SIR and originals on the package:
An inventory list with estimated values with the reason for importation (holidays, move, relocation) A confirmation that the goods are older than 6 months and that they are intended for personal use only A photocopy of passport or ID card Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis.
Excisable goods (for example, perfume, alcoholic drinks, tobacco), medicine and perishable food can not be cleared as personal effects.
Personal effects shipments are not allowed in combination with Return Services.

Prohibited or Restricted Commodities
In addition to the commodities which UPS prohibits to all countries or territories served (listed here), it is prohibited to ship the following commodities to Dominican Republic.
- As of July 30, 2010, the importation of used electro domestic goods is prohibited, per decree under article 2, of Customs law 04-07, which includes but not limited to, microwave ovens, toasters, TV sets, radios, stereo equipment, food processors, washers and dryers, refrigerators, etc.
Any used electro domestic arriving on or after July 30, 2010, will be returned to the shipper at the expense of the shipper or be seized by Customs. No exceptions will be allowed.
- Electronic Cigarettes can only be shipped with an International Special Commodities (ISC) contract.

- Jewelry or jewelry accessories and related imports, regardless of service level or mode of transportation, will incur the following charges:

- Products made in Iran are prohibited in our service due to a current embargo.
- Unused traveler's checks are prohibited.
