Commodity Specific Stipulations

There are special stipulations on the following commodities when shipping to Chile. If you plan to ship one of the commodities listed below, be sure to adhere to the following stipulations in order to avoid delays and holds at customs.

Import of Alcoholic beverages into Chile is permitted via ISC contract service. UPS does not serve directly to consumer(DtC) shipment into Chile. Alcoholic beverages will be inspected by the SAG (Agriculture and Livestock Dept.) before Customs can clear the shipment. This process will delay the shipment by 1 to 2 days
Cows, goats, sheep, and pigs are considered domesticated animals. All other animals are considered non-domesticated animals. Items or products made from non-domesticated animals are restricted in the UPS system and only allowed with a UPS ISC contract. CITES permit and additional restrictions may apply, please check with your local ISC Coordinator.

All imported animal food products will be inspected by the SAG (Agriculture and Livestock Dept.) before Customs can clear shipment. This process will delay the shipment by 1 to 2 days.

All cosmetic shipments are under the Chilean Health Ministry's authority and must follow these procedures
  • For less than 10 items per shipment it requires a declaration prior to arrival that
    • Goods are for personal use only
    • Copy of the consignees national ID (cedula de identidad)
    • Copy of the air waybill, commercial invoice, etc.
    • Sworn declaration from the importer (consignee) indicating that the goods are for personal use only and not for commercial purposes.

The entry process approval from Chile Health Ministry, if the information is sent ahead of the arrival of the goods. takes about 48 hours, and then it can be presented for clearance with Chle Customs (Certificado de destinacion Aduanera), for delivery to the address of the consignee.

Incomplete shipments cannot be processed and the maximum is 10 items. For shipments with more then 10 items it requires

  • A resolution from the warehouse that the items will be kept in a proper environment at the airport, until the goods have been released, if the consignee doesn't have it's own warehouse then they need to present a contract indicating that the warehouse to be used complies with the requirements and is authorized by the authorities to provide this service
  • Air waybill number, commercial invoice, etc. It is best if the shipper firstly contacts UPS or their broker to understand the process for these types of shipments, to minimize delays and other costs.
Audio and video discs are subject to government inspection.
Prescriptions for personal use require an invoice and a prescription.

An Import License is required for commercial shipments of medicine. The Prescription has to accompany the package. However, it is not required to be on the outside of the package. It is acceptable to be included inside the package.

Films and videos sent to Chile will not be censored, provided the description is specific (for example, technical, educational, scientific, or family). The invoice must clearly state that the films or videos are not for commercial use. If for commercial use, they may be subject to censorship.
All food items arriving in Chile require the consignee to obtain an Import Permit from the Health Department, if not obtained, unable to clear.
All maps imported must be revised by DIFROL (Direccion de Fronteras y Limites). The inspection could take up to three weeks before clearing customs.
A prescription and a certificate from the Chilean Department of Health ("Certificado Del Servicio Nacional de Salud") are required to import medicine.
Customers must use an authorized UPS / MBE (Mail Boxes Etc) Store, UPS Customer Center or ISC Approved Shipper to ship personal effects.

The UPS Store, Mail Boxes Etc, UPS Customer Center or ISC approved shipper will be required to identify personal effect shipments on the shipping label by placing "Personal Effects" in the Reference Field of a UPS "smart" label or in the Special Instructions Field of a UPS waybill. They must also clearly indicate 'Personal Effects' shipment on the Commercial Invoice.

Personal Effects are classified as used items (owned for a minimum of 6 months) intended for the consignee's personal use. Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis. "Personal Effects" must be clearly stated on the invoice and goods description.

All of the following documents must be scanned into DIS/SIR and originals on the package:

An inventory list with estimated values with the reason for importation (holidays, move, relocation) A confirmation that the goods are older than 6 months and that they are intended for personal use only A photocopy of passport or ID card Any items intended for any other use, such as wholesale or retail sales, business purposes, or for distribution are not considered personal effects and cannot be shipped on this basis.

Excisable goods (for example, perfume, alcoholic drinks, tobacco), medicine and perishable food can not be cleared as personal effects.

Personal effects shipments are not allowed in combination with Return Services.

Sample shipments can be sent with a pro forma invoice only. An import license is required if the CIF (cost, declared value, and freight) value exceeds US$3,000.00.

Prohibited or Restricted Commodities

Electronic cigarette devices that contain cartridges with essences and formulated under the active principle of nicotine are prohibited from entering the national territory. Since it does not have a health registration for a pharmaceutical product, it is not appropriate to request a CDA from the ISP while the registration doesnt exist
Products made in Iran are prohibited in our service due to a current embargo.
Unaccompanied baggage must be sent as cargo. An itemized invoice or proforma invoice must accompany the shipment and an Import License is required if the CIF (cost, insurance,freight) value exceepds US$3,000.00.
