|UPS Hazardous Materials Contract Service provides a standardized and more
efficient method of handling hazardous materials in a compliant manner. The
service is designed to maximize the benefit to customers while minimizing the
risks associated with these types of shipments.
UPS accepts hazardous materials on a contract-basis only. ORM-D and limited
quantity (215K) ground shipments in the 48 contiguous states do not require a
contract. Non-dangerous goods shipments packed in dry ice also are exempt
from contract. However, those shipments do require ISC approval for
international shipments and are restricted to specific service territories.
As a transportation company, UPS is obligated to comply with all governmental
laws and regulations relating to the transportation of Hazardous Materials. Such
laws and regulations are issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT),
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other regulatory
bodies to ensure the safe transportation and offering for transportation of
Hazardous Materials using all modes, including highway, air, and rail.
Shippers seeking the ability to transport hazardous materials in cargo
aircraft only (CAO) quantities will need to contact their UPS account executive
for more information. A separate CAO addendum will need to be signed, which
requires the shipper to provide accurate and timely information about each CAO
hazardous material package. Please obtain information about shipping hazardous
materials with UPS by calling the UPS Hazardous Materials Support Center at
