Mexico City, September 17, 2012 - The UPS Foundation grants $214,000 dollars (USD) to three Mexican institutions in order to implement social development projects that will benefit the community. The organizations which obtained this donation are: Centro de Cirugía Especial de México, Fundación para la Protección de la Niñez and Fundación Educa México.
During the check presentation ceremony, UPS's Mexico executives congratulated the organizations for their humanitarian assistance and handed them the donation checks for their work.

The UPS Foundation provides funding to local operations allowing our employees to direct the investments in their community. The program committees identify and provide financial support to local organizations to help them support those who have urgent needs. The decision to grant donations is made at the regional level and is then subject to approval from The UPS Foundation.

Winning projects

  • The Project of the Fundación para la Protección de la Niñez, I.A.P. is the Centro de Capacitación para el Fortalecimiento de las Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil (Training Center for Strengthening the Civil Organizations), which aims  to boost the impact that the Training Center has on civil organizations in order to strengthen and improve their professionalism. The Center focuses on training a managerial and administrative staff of 40 organizations registered as Civil Associations or Public Welfare that provide educational, healthcare, assistance, personal development and/or community services. Its objective is to provide courses, through the Training Center, on: Development of High-Impact Projects under the Methodology of Logical Framework, Business Plan, Sustainability and Personal Development.
  • The Project of Fundación Educa México consists of an educational strategy called Educa-T. It seeks excellence in education in a modern, instructive and didactic way with the support of Information Technology and Communication (ITC) in a multimedia room, known at an international level as Virtual Learning Environment Rooms (VLE). It aims to strengthen the use of technology as a learning tool to improve academic performance of children in math and reading comprehension. This grant will help 440 children develop teamwork skills and educational performance through interactive, dynamic and participatory education. It will give support to 52 teachers and school staff to prepare classes; accesses updated information and obtain resource materials.
  • Centro de Cirugía Especial de México, I.A.P. provides services to benefit children in extreme poverty who have suffered health issues in order to reintegrate them into the environment. Some of the problems treated include: sequelae of cerebral palsy, craniofacial malformations, sequelae of facial trauma, burns, fractures and dislocations, ocular prosthesis placement (artificial eye), among others. The program  provides the necessary supplies for surgical interventions, such as operating room costs, instruments, anesthetics, surgeons, anesthesiologists, x-rays, hospitalization, etc.

In 2011, The UPS Foundation granted 93.5 million dollars to local institutions worldwide. The UPS Foundation focuses its philanthropy in four areas:  Diversity, Environment, Community Safety and Volunteerism.  These areas align with our business strategies, our core logistics capabilities, and the concerns of our employees worldwide.

About Fundación para la Protección de la Niñez IAP (FPN)
Founded in 1990, it contributes to strengthen civil organizations that promote social development in Mexico. Through its two offices (Mexico City and Tijuana) it designs, manages and coordinates projects that contribute to the professionalization, sustainability and development of non-profit organizations. Its main objective is to facilitate the donation processes to generate confidence in the donor and the beneficiary in order to strengthen the CSOs with financial, human and in-kind resources in five areas: support for basic needs, education, health, institutional strength and culture, and sport and recreation.

The EDUCA México, A.C. foundation is a non-profit organization with a history of 17 years. Its mission is to strengthen educational communities to improve their quality of life and contribute to a national educational transformation in a sustainable way. EDUCA currently has and supports a network of 50 educational communities in ten states of Mexico.

About CCEM
It was founded in 2002 as a Private Assistance Institution to operate children in extreme poverty with serious deformities or malformations (using well trained personnel and highly specialized equipment and facilities) in order to reintegrate them into their family, school and society in the shortest possible time, with the lowest degree of disability. To date, more than 10,000 surgeries have been performed to correct severe deformities or malformations.
