UPS Foundation Grants US$76,000 to Japanese NPO Family House
Press Release

UPS Employees also involved as Cleaning and Other Volunteers

The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS), has donated US$76,000 to the certified NPO (non-profit organization) Family House. The Japan-based NPO operates facilities to provide low cost, safe and secure accommodation needed for families to nurse their children who suffer from intractable diseases. The grant will be used to purchase safety equipment and for maintenance services of the Family House's existing facilities, including bladeless fans and heaters, vacuum cleaners, washing machines as well as helmets, whistles, and portable toilets.

Family House was established in 1991 and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1999. It now operates 56 rooms in 11 facilities and accommodated over 13,000 children from more than 1,300 families in 2012.

UPS employees have also been providing volunteering services to Family House since 2011. More than 90 UPSers and their families contributed over 230 hours to various activities such as cleaning of the NGO's facilities with the help of used recycled T-shirts as cleaning materials, and beautifying the facilities through gardening.

Masato Umeno, president of UPS Japan, said, "At UPS, we have long believed that we grow not only by investing in our business, but also in our people and our communities. We are pleased to be able to develop a meaningful relationship with the Family House, supporting them through monetary donations as well as volunteer efforts. We are committed to giving back to the community through various means and will continue to make important contributions to the community."
