Service Disruptions during the Glasgow 2014 XX Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games are nearly upon us and it's time to start preparing for them. It takes a lot to stage the Games - take a second and consider this:

* 1 million plus tickets are expected to be issued for the events pertaining to the Games which begin on 23rd July with the Opening Ceremony at Celtic Park, through to the Closing Ceremony at Hampden Park on 3rd August
* The city of Glasgow is anticipating hundreds of thousands of visitors per day to bask in the Games experience during the 11 days of competition
* Approximately 6,500 athletes and officials will need to be transported to and from venues and events
* There will be a Games workforce of 15,000 volunteers and paid staff that will also need to travel to and from venues
* The Games will take place across 14 venues

That's a whole lot of logistics!

Understandably, leading up to and during 'Games Time', there will be disruption to areas surrounding the Games venues as well as areas used for road events such as the Marathon, Cycling Time Trial and Cycling Road Race. This will impact on collections and deliveries in and around Glasgow but UPS will ensure service levels are maintained to the best of our abilities. After all, who else loves logistics like UPS does!

UPS has a long standing heritage of providing logistics for sporting events such as this, including operational planning to overcome road restrictions during Games Time within a host city. We've used our experience from the London 2012 Olympics, where UPS was the official Logistics and Express Delivery supporter, to deploy a team of experts to analyse traffic charts and to plan, prepare and implement solutions to keep our day-to-day business moving around the city of Glasgow.

We are committed to keeping our customers informed and will release updates at key stages, if necessary. UPS will continue to monitor any potential disruptions which may impact deliveries and collections to ensure we are able to maintain our high level of service during this period.

For more information on traffic and travel disruptions please visit: http://www.getreadyglasgow.com or the dedicated Games Travel Radio service providing frequent traffic and travel information bulletins related to the Commonwealth Games.

If you have any questions about deliveries or collections during the Commonwealth Games, please contact your Account Representative.
