Customs Number for Economic Operators
Service Update

Europe's Community Customs Code requires the use of a seven-digit customs number when importing into or exporting out of Germany. This customs number serves as an identification and is mandatory for customs clearance.

Shipments to commercial importers and business consignees without a customs number will be held by German customs up to 20 days unless a customs number is presented. After this period, shipments may be returned to the shipper.

Application forms for the seven-digit customs number are available here: Form 0870en of the Federal Customs Administration.

While the application is being processed, customers may show proof of their application in order to declare packages. To do so, please email a scanned copy of the application form to UPS Import Brokerage at importde@ups.com  or fax it to 02241-491 1294.

Please note that private individuals are exempt from this regulation.
