UPS China Employees Participated in 10th Anniversary of Global Volunteer Month
Press Release

1,954 UPS Employees Across China Dedicated over 5,600 Hours to Give Back to Local Communities

BEIJING, November 19, 2013 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced today that 1,954 employees across China volunteered their time during the 10th anniversary of the company's annual Global Volunteer Month (GVM). This year, UPSers participated in various community activities - ranging from environmental protection to the care of underprivileged social groups - and contributed a total of 5,634 hours of service across key Chinese cities and provinces.

Volunteers in Beijing partnered with the China Youth Development Foundation to help remove weeds at the Badaling National Forest Park. They also helped paint a school library to support the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, to provide the children of migrant workers a cleaner reading environment.

UPSers in Shanghai worked with Shanghai Yangpu the Elder Volunteer Community to paint and clean houses for the elderly.

In the Guangdong area, almost 300 UPS volunteers from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan and Foshan contributed to the maintenance and protection of the environment through various clean-up operations at national parks; and spent time with the elderly and children with special needs, engaging them with games and activities.

"In China, we encourage our staff to proactively participate in community activities by helping those who are in need. We believe that this should be a core component of every responsible enterprise, and in the future, we aim to have more volunteer events in China to positively impact the development of this area," said Mr Richard Loi, President of UPS China.

This year, UPS volunteers in Asia dedicated 27,552 hours of service, which exceeded last year's figure. "I am proud of every single employee in Asia Pacific who took time out of their daily lives to volunteer during Global Volunteer Month, as well as throughout the year," said Frank Becker, Vice President of Human Resources, UPS Asia Pacific Region. "Volunteerism is a long-standing tradition at UPS and we believe it begins at the community level. Our employees have a deep understanding of the needs of their communities and which charities they should support."

UPS has established Community Involvement Committees (CIC) across Asia to identify and engage with local charities to organise activities. Made up of UPS volunteers, CIC members work with The UPS Foundation to support community needs by leveraging UPS's logistics expertise, transportation assets, and the skills and passions of our employees. Although October marks a month-long dedication to volunteering, UPS employees participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.
