Import Billing Options
Select Your Import Billing Option
UPS provides a variety of convenient billing options to suit your needs:

  • Prepaid: Shipper pays all shipping charges, including accessorial (additional UPS service) charges; consignee pays the destination country's duty and tax, if applicable
  • Freight Collect: Consignee pays all the shipping charges (excluding charges for Saturday Delivery) and the destination country's duty and tax, if applicable; for international shipments, this option can only be used when the shipment's actual value is equal to or greater than the UPS published rate for the transportation of the shipment
  • Third Party: Shipper may request that the shipper's portion of the shipping charges be billed to an alternative party (except for Saturday Delivery); the alternative party must have an active UPS account
  • Bill Duty/Tax and Shipping Charges to Shipper ("Free Domicile"): Shipper pays the destination country's duty and tax, if applicable, in addition to all shipping charges
  • Delivered Duty Paid, V.A.T. Unpaid: The shipper pays the destination country's duty charges; consignee pays the destination country's V.A.T. (Value Added Tax)
  • Freight on Board (F.O.B.): Shipper pays shipping charges to port of export; consignee pays balance
  • Cost and Freight (C&F): Shipper pays shipping charges to port of import; consignee pays balance
For All Billing Options:

  • Shipper must notify the consignee prior to shipping if any option other than "Prepaid" is selected, and the billing option required must be indicated on the appropriate UPS pickup record in the space provided
  • Shipper is liable for payment in the event of non-payment by the consignee or the alternative party
If you choose the Freight Collect billing option for imports from certain origin countries, you can also take advantage of our fixed published Import Zones and Rates into Canada.
