Dangerous Goods

Dangerous Goods are articles or substances that are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment when transported. These are classified according to various sets of regulations for both air and ground transport, including:

  • ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air
  • TDGR (Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations) as prescribed by the Dangerous Goods Transportation Act (1992).

If you are unsure whether your commodity is regulated by ICAO or TDG, please check your Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for further information.

Note: UPS does not offer shippers any formal consultative services relating to Dangerous Goods regulations.

Dangerous Goods Service Definition

In Canada, UPS accepts most IATA- and TDG-regulated commodities from the list of acceptable classes. In some circumstances, the net inner receptacle quantity or the net quantity per package will vary from the allowable regulatory maximums.
