  • A charge per shipment will be assessed for domestic (if available) and international shipments with a missing or invalid payer account number. Additionally, if the consignee or third party fails to pay the shipping charges, the original shipper will be billed a refusal fee plus the shipping charges.

Extended Area and Remote Area Surcharges

Extended Area Surcharge
UPS provides a collection or delivery service in extended, as well as urban, areas. An additional charge applies for each shipment that is collected or delivered in an extended area.

Remote Area Surcharge
This surcharge is applied for delivery to or collection from an area beyond UPS extended areas, which are less accessible for collections and deliveries (domestic and international services).

Special Handling of Undeliverable Shipments

When UPS has taken measures to try to deliver any Worldwide shipments, but has been unsuccessful, we will process your shipment acting on your instructions. The transportation cost and a surcharge will be charged to the shipper for the processing of each such undeliverable shipment. Please see the Additional Charges table for pricing information.

For all shipments within the EU and within your country, we will automatically return your shipment by UPS Standard service (where available). Transportation and fuel charges will apply for the return.

Imports

UPS provides brokerage service at no additional charge for routine customs clearance, including formal entries for shipments of up to five tariff lines. Additional charges may apply for complex customs clearance procedures.

UPS Broker of Choice

With UPS Broker of Choice, importers select their own customs broker for customs clearance of their UPS international shipments. This service is available for shipments using UPS Worldwide Express Plus, UPS Worldwide Express, UPS Worldwide Saver and UPS Worldwide Expedited. This contractual, fee-based service ensures that the established relationship with a customs broker remains in place while the importer works with UPS to save time and increase efficiencies in shipping and customs processing. Using UPS Broker of Choice enables importers to reduce fees and errors incurred while using multiple customs clearance processes. Importers have two options:

  1. UPS Broker of Choice OnSite: used for shipments that remain in UPS possession while the importer's customs broker completes customs clearance procedures prior to UPS completing delivery of the shipment.
  2. UPS Broker of Choice OffSite: used for shipments moved "in-bond" directly to a customs controlled (bonded) warehouse (at the importer's direction) where the importer's customs broker completes the customs clearance procedures. The UPS transport is complete upon delivery of the shipment to the warehouse.

Additional Handling Charge

Additional Handling applies to the following:

  • Any cylindrical item, such as a barrel, drum, pail, or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container
  • Any package with the longest side exceeding 48 inches (122 cm) or its second-longest side exceeding 30 inches (76 cm)

Disbursement Fee

In order to expedite customs clearance, UPS may advance duty and taxes on behalf of the payer, as dictated by the billing option selected. A Disbursement Fee based on the amount advanced will be assessed and billed to the payer. This fee is shown in the Additional Charges table.

Delivery Reattempt

Additional delivery attempts may have additional charges.

Delivery Duty Paid, V.A.T. Unpaid Charge

When the "Delivery Duty Paid, V.A.T. Unpaid" billing option is selected, a surcharge will be billed to the shipper.

Applications of Goods and Services Tax (GST)

The additional charges shown above are not GST inclusive. Where there is a taxable supply, GST will be charged.

Under the current ATO ruling, the import freight charge on your UPS invoice is GST free.

The Australian Customs legislation states that any consignment with a value over AUD 1,000 requires a customs clearance entry. Where Australia Customs Service direct that a customs clearance entry is required to clear your goods, then GST is payable at 10% on the total cost of the value of your goods plus Duty plus Freight and Declared Value for Carriage.

Late Payment Fee

UPS will send you an invoice for the services we have provided. In the event that an invoice is overdue, UPS will charge a late payment fee. The relevant amount will appear on your next UPS bill. This fee is in addition to any legal rights and remedies available to UPS.

These packages are subject to an Over Maximum Limits surcharge, in addition to all other applicable charges, if found in the UPS small package system.

Pre-Release Notification Surcharge

A shipper or consignee may request that UPS notify the consignee prior to submission of an import shipment to customs so that the importer may validate the classification, valuation, or other import information. An additional fee per shipment will be billed to the importer or to the shipper when the shipper is selected as the payer of the duties and taxes for the shipment.

UPS Paperless Invoice

UPS Paperless Invoice allows customers using a UPS online shipping system (for example, Worldship®, UPS Campus Ship, and UPS Internet Shipping) to electronically submit commercial invoice data for clearance. Depending on country-specific customs regulations, this may eliminate the need to affix hard copies of the invoice to the shipment and reduces the possibility of errors or shipment delays due to missing documentation.

This service is offered on a contractual basis and there is no charge incurred.
