North American Free Trade Agreement Certificate of Origin (NAFTA CO)
Note: The North American Free Trade Agreement Certificate of Origin (NAFTA CO) is used only if the origin of the shipment is Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the United States.
The NAFTA CO determines if goods imported into Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United States receive a reduction in duty. In order to receive the benefits of reduced duty, you must attach the NAFTA CO to the Commercial Invoice if you have determined your goods qualify for reduced duty and:
The shipment is a United States, Puerto Rico, or Canada origin and a Mexico destination with a value of $1,000 US dollars or greater (or local equivalent).
The shipment is a United States, Puerto Rico, or Mexico origin and a Canada destination with a value of $1,600 in Canadian dollars or greater (or local equivalent).
The shipment is a United States, Puerto Rico, or Mexico origin and a United States destination with a value of $2,500 in US dollars or greater (or local equivalent).
Shipments valued less than the above amounts only require a statement on the Commercial Invoice requesting NAFTA preferential tariff treatment.
To process a NAFTA CO using UPS WorldShip, use one of the following methods:
Print and Attach NAFTA COs to Shipments - WorldShip can print NAFTA COs as needed. See Print International Documents using UPS WorldShip.
Submit Paperless NAFTA COs to UPS - UPS can prepare and submit NAFTA COs on your behalf as needed. This method eliminates your need to print and attach NAFTA COs to your shipments. See Submit Paperless International Documents to UPS.
