Use AESDirect to electronically file the Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) information to the US Customs Service’s Automated Export System (AES).
Before using AESDirect, you must do the following:
Complete and submit an online
AESDirect registration form.
Tip: When completing the registration form, be sure to select No for the question "Are you planning to use EDI Upload?" and skip the rest of the EDI Upload section.
Once your AESDirect account is set up, access the AESDirect Tutorial. In order to become a fully authorized user of AESDirect (and begin to file your SEDs with the AES), you must first complete the AESDirect online tutorial and pass the tutorial quiz.
When you pass the quiz, the US Census Bureau will set up your AES account and notify you that you can begin filing SEDs electronically with the AES. This notification includes the AES filing status for which your account has been authorized.
You can be authorized for the following AES filing options:
Your SED information is processed as follows:
You submit the SED information to AESDirect over the Internet.
AESDirect checks the information for accuracy and completeness and then either accepts or rejects your submission. If AESDirect rejects your submission, you will have the chance to correct it.
AESDirect sends your SED information to the US Customs Service’s AES.
The AES accepts the information and sends a confirmation to AESDirect.
AESDirect e-mails the US Customs Service confirmation to you.
For more information on AESDirect, go to the AESDirect Web site and see the AESDirect User Guide.
