Shipper's Export Declaration (SED)
Note: The Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) is used only if the origin of the shipment is the United States or Puerto Rico.
The SED provides general information about your export transaction and is used for developing US export statistics and controls.
The SED is only required if your shipment contains a commodity (or good) in one of the following instances:
Has a value greater than $2,500.
Requires an export license.
An SED is not required for shipments to Canada unless the goods are being exported under an export license or license exception or the shipment is destined for a third country.
Provided all information needed to complete an SED is present, use one of the following methods to process an SED using UPS WorldShip:
Print and Attach SEDs to Shipments - WorldShip can print SEDs as needed. See Print International Documents using UPS WorldShip.
Submit Paperless SEDs to UPS - UPS can prepare and submit SEDs on your behalf as needed. This method eliminates your need to print and attach SEDs to your shipments. See Submit Paperless International Documents to UPS.
Submit Paperless SEDs to US Census Bureau- Use WorldShip to file an SED with the US Census Bureau either before or after shipment departure using the Automated Export System (AES). This method also eliminates your need to print and attach SEDs to your shipments. See Submit Paperless SEDs with AESDirect.
