Add a Freight Commodity with Commodity Editor

The Commodity Editor allows you to add, modify, or delete a list of commodities that you expect to specify in Air and Ground Freight shipments. After adding the commodities to the Commodity Editor, use the Commodity Search feature to add the commodities to your Air or Ground Freight shipment. See Search for a Commodity for Air/Ground Freight.

To add a commodity:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Commodity Editor. The Commodity Editor window appears.

  2. Click the Freight Commodity tab.

  3. Under Commodity Common Data:

  4. In the Description box, enter a brief description.

  5. In the Packaging Type box, click the down arrow and select a packaging type.

  6. In the Unit Weight box, enter the weight of the commodity.

  7. In the Total Weight box, enter the total weight of the commodity.

  8. Select the HAZMAT/Dangerous Goods check box if required.

Tip: The weight boxes accept only whole numbers using the unit of measure set on the Shipping tab in the System Preferences Editor window.

  1. Under Ground Freight Commodity:

  2. In the Freight Class box, click the down arrow and select a class.

  3. In the NMFC box, enter the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) number.

  4. In the Sub box, enter the NMFC sub number.

  1. Under Air Freight Commodity:

  2. In the Length box, enter the largest dimension.

  3. In the Width box, enter the second largest dimension.

  4. In the Height box, enter the third largest dimension.

Tip: The dimension boxes accept only whole numbers using the unit of measure set on the Shipping tab in the System Preferences Editor window.

  1. Click the Add New Commodity button.

  2. When you are finished, click the Close button.
