2009 Surcharges and Accessorials

The following changes have been made to small package surcharges and accessorials:

  • Delivery Area Surcharges for commercial and residential addresses have increased $0.10. The Retail Rate has increased $0.05. A new $0.25 premium applies to residential destinations designated as Extended. The Delivery Area Surcharge for UPS Hundredweight Services� has increased $0.50.
  • Residential Surcharges have increased $0.10*. The Hundredweight Residential Surcharge has increased $1.00.
  • The Daily Rate charge for Declared Value has increased $0.05 per $100 of Declared Value with a minimum charge of $1.95.
  • The Additional Handling Charge has increased $1.00 and applies to U.S. Export Services.**
  • The Address Correction charge for UPS Ground packages has increased $2.00.*
  • The charges for Delivery Confirmation*, Delivery Confirmation - Signature Required and Delivery Confirmation - Adult Signature Required have increased $0.25.
  • The Automatic Daily Pickup charge has increased $1.00.*
  • The charge for Saturday Pickup has increased $2.50.*
  • The charge for Saturday Delivery has increased $2.50. The Retail Rate has increased $0.50.
  • The Hazardous Materials charge applied to UPS Ground and Air Services has increased $2.50.
  • The surcharge applied to UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.® has increased $2.50.*
  • The minimum billable weight for UPS Hundredweight Services has changed. Refer to the Hundredweight published materials for more information.
  • The Disbursement Fee Minimum and Entry Preparation Charges for imports have increased $0.50.
  • The divisor used to calculate dimensional weight for U.S. Import Freight Collect shipments has changed from 166 to 139.***
  • Effective July 13, 2009 the following fees will apply for Delivery Change Requests made after the first delivery attempt. For requests for Deliver to Another Address and Reschedule Delivery: $4 per package for requests submitted through ups.com® and $6 per package for requests received through
    1-800-PICK-UPS®. An additional transportation charge will apply for delivery to a new address outside the local area.
  • The fee per UPS carbon neutral package is $0.05 for UPS Ground, and $0.20 for UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.®, UPS Next Day Air®, UPS Next Day Air Saver®, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M.®, UPS 2nd Day Air®; and UPS 3 Day Select®.
