An e-mail notification is sent when a shipment event occurs as the shipment moves through the UPS system. There are three shipment events that trigger a notification:
- Ship: A Ship notification tells you when shipment information has been received by UPS.
- Exception: An Exception notification informs you about the unforeseen events resulting in a change to the expected delivery day and includes the rescheduled delivery date.
- Delivery: A Delivery notification tells you when the shipment has been delivered.

The ship notification informs customers that UPS has received information about the shipment electronically from the shipper. This does not always indicate that the shipper has given the shipment to UPS. It is possible for the shipper to process the shipment and upload the shipping information to the UPS data network before the shipment is picked up or delivered to UPS.
