The instructions below will help you through the process of installing a UPS Thermal Printer.

Before Installing the UPS Thermal Printer
|
Before installing your UPS Thermal Printer, you must first do the following:
- Install the UPS Thermal Printer driver.
- Install the UPS Thermal Printer plug-in or ActiveX control plug-in.
An ActiveX control is installed for supported versions of Microsoft® Internet Explorer. A plug-in program is installed for supported versions of Netscape® Navigator and Firefox.
Also, verify that your computer meets the following system and browser requirements:
- Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT 4.0, XP, Vista operating systems
PC Browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x
- Netscape Navigator 7.x
- Netscape Navigator 8.x
- Netscape Navigator 9.x
- Firefox 2.x
Netscape Navigator 6.0/6.1 are NOT supported due to issues relating to their ability to render printed labels.
In addition to using one of these recommended browsers, the following options will need to be set:
- Enable JavaScript
- Accept Cookies
- Enable Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology. 128-bit required
- Enable Graphics
- Save encrypted pages to disk
- Adjust page caching to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer: Every time user starts IE / every visit to page
- Netscape Navigator: Every time user views page/always
Note: If you need to reinstall an earlier browser version, make sure you completely uninstall your current browser before reinstalling the earlier browser version. UPS Internet Shipping does not support beta versions of browsers.

How To Install the UPS Thermal Printer Driver

Note: If you are using an Eltron printer, and you have not installed the printer driver, follow the instructions below. If you are using a Samsung SRP-770 II printer, you must install the printer driver from the CD that was included with the printer. Following the instructions below will not install the Samsung printer driver.
Installing the Eltron Thermal Printer
Make sure you have set up your thermal printer equipment, cables, and thermal labels as described in your UPS Thermal Printer documentation.
The following instructions will help you download and install the UPS Thermal Printer driver program (UPS_319_117.EXE) to your selected directory.
- Select the Download the UPS Thermal Printer Driver link below.
- After the download window appears, select a directory for saving the driver program.
- After the download completes, go to the directory where you saved the driver program. Run the program, select Unzip, then select OK.
- Follow the instructions for setting up a printer driver using the Installation Utility instructions, or follow the instructions for your system.
- After successfully installing the UPS Thermal Printer driver, follow the instructions for Installing the My UPS Thermal Printer Plug-in or ActiveX Control.
Note: You must install the printer driver provided by UPS. The driver provided by Eltron will not work with UPS Internet Shipping.

How To Install the UPS Thermal Printer Plugin or ActiveX Control
|
(Follow these instructions if you have already installed the UPS Thermal Printer driver.)
The following instructions will help you download and install the UPS Thermal Printer plug-in or ActiveX control to your selected directory. ActiveX control is installed for supported versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. A plug-in program is installed for supported versions of Netscape Navigator.
- Select the Download the UPS Thermal Printer Plugin or ActiveX Control Program link below.
- After the download window appears, select a directory for saving the plug-in or ActiveX control.
- After the download completes, go to the directory where you saved the plug-in or ActiveX control and run the program. You will be alerted which browsers are compatible with the plug-in or ActiveX control. You will only be able to print UPS Thermal Printer labels using the compatible browsers listed above in the Before Installing the UPS Thermal Printer section.
- After successfully installing the UPS Thermal Printer plug-in or ActiveX control, close all browser windows and start a compatible browser.
- Navigate to Create a Shipment.
- Print a sample label to make sure you properly installed the UPS Thermal Printer and to verify print quality. Instructions for printing a sample label can be found under Printing Labels and Receipts help. Or, you can find instructions by selecting Print a Sample Label on your Shipping Preferences page.
Note: If a printing error occurs, the lighted button on the thermal printer might turn red, or the printing might not start or will stop while printing is in progress. Use your UPS Thermal Printer documentation to resolve these problems.
To designate your UPS Thermal Printer as your desired printer for UPS Internet Shipping, select Create a Shipment in the area at the left, then select Set Preferences. Select the UPS Thermal Printer in the Printing Preferences section of the ensuing page.

How To Install the Printer Drivers Using the Installation Utility
|
- Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers.
- Run the setup.exe utility.
- Select the language to install. Currently, English is the only choice.
- Follow the prompts to select the printer model and port that you will be using.
- The Utility will install the appropriate files and then run the Configuration Wizard to help you configure your new driver.
- When the Install/Configure Wizard is complete, your new driver will be installed and ready for use.

How To Install the Windows 95/98 Printer Driver
|
- Select the Start menu on the Windows taskbar. Select Settings, then select Printers.
- Select the Add Printer icon twice.
- Select My Computer or Network printer server to determine how your printer will be managed and connected. Select Next.
- A screen displays all Available Ports. Select the printer port checkbox, and then select the Next. A screen listing printer manufacturers and printer models displays.
- Select Have Disk. The Install From Disk dialog box displays. The Copy manufacturer's files from drop-down list defaults to drive A:\.
- Delete the A:, and then select Browse.
- Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers, and then select Open.
- Select zsd.inf, and then select Open.
- Select OK.
- Select the appropriate UPS Thermal Printer, and then select Next.
- Select the corresponding printer port.
- Select Configure Port to configure your port settings (refer to your printer manual for more details).
- Select Next.
- Select Next (do not change the printer name).
- You are asked whether you want to print a test page. Select No (do not print a test page). You will print a test page later, using UPS Internet Shipping.
- Select Finish.

How To Install the Windows NT 4.0 Printer Driver

- Select the Start menu on the Windows taskbar. Select Settings, and then select Printers.
- Select the Add Printer icon twice.

- A screen displays all Available Ports. Select the printer port checkbox, and then select Next. A screen listing printer manufacturers and printer models displays.

- Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers, and then select Open.

- A screen displays the printer name (do not change the printer name). You are asked whether you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer. Select Yes or No, and then select Next.
- You are asked whether you want to share this printer with other network users. Select Shared or Not Shared. If you select Shared, you can enter a Share Name, and then select (from a displayed list) the operating system for all printers that will be printing to this printer. After completing the screen, select Next.
- You are asked whether you want to print a test page. Select No (do not print a test page). You will print a test page later, using UPS Internet Shipping.
- Select Finish.

How To Install the Windows 2000 Printer Driver
|
- Select the Start menu on the Windows taskbar. Select Settings, and then select Printers.
- Select the Add Printer icon twice.
- Specify whether this printer will be a Local or Network printer, then select Next.
- The next screen displays all Available Ports. Select the appropriate printer port checkbox, and then select Next. A screen listing printer manufacturers and printer models displays.
- Select Have Disk. The Install From Disk dialog box displays. The Copy manufacturer's files from drop-down list defaults to drive A:\.
- Delete the A:, and then select Browse.
- Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers, and then select Open.
- Select zsd.inf, and then select Open.
- Select OK.
- Select the appropriate UPS Thermal Printer, then select Next.
- You are asked whether you want to share this printer with other network users. Select Shared or Not Shared. If you select Shared, you can enter a Share Name, and then select (from a displayed list) the operating system for all printers that will be printing to this printer. After completing the screen, select Next.
- You are asked whether you want to print a test page. Select No (do not print a test page). You will print a test page later, using UPS Internet Shipping.
- Select Finish.
- When the Digital Signature Not Found warning appears, select Yes. (This driver was written for WINNT4.0 and can be used with WIN 2000 OS.)

How To Install the Windows XP and Windows Vista Printer Driver
|
Microsoft® Internet Explorer users may keep the UPS Internet Shipping session open when downloading and installing the Windows XP and Windows Vista printer driver. Netscape® users must exit the browser after installation for the changes to take effect.
- Select the Start menu on the Windows taskbar. Select Settings, and then select Printers.
- Select the Add Printer icon twice.
- Specify whether this printer will be a Local or Network printer. Do not select to have Windows Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. Select Next.
- The next screen displays all Available Ports. Select the appropriate printer port checkbox, and then select Next. A screen listing printer manufacturers and printer models displays.
- Select Have Disk. The Install From Disk dialog box displays. The Copy manufacturer´s files from drop-down list defaults to drive A:\.
- Delete the A:, and then select Browse.
- Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers, and then select Open.
- Select zsd.inf, and then select Open.
- Select OK.
- Select the appropriate UPS Thermal Printer, then select Next.
- Name your printer using the appropriate printer model number (for example, UPS Thermal 2442). Select Next.
- You are asked whether you want to print a test page. Select No (do not print a test page). You will print a test page later, using UPS Internet Shipping.
- Select Finish.
- A Hardware Warning error box appears. This error message states that Microsoft has not tested the UPS Thermal Printer for compatibility with Windows XP. UPS has tested the UPS Thermal Printer for compatibility with Windows XP and has printed shipping labels successfully. Select Continue Anyway to complete the installation.
