What options do I have when receiving or shipping a package?

It doesn't matter if you're shipping a package or waiting for a delivery, UPS offers several options for rescheduling or rerouting eligible packages.

If You're Receiving a Package

UPS InfoNotice®

If you're expecting a package and missed the first delivery attempt, you probably received a UPS InfoNotice.

The InfoNotice lets you know we were unable to deliver your package.

Using your InfoNotice number, you can request that UPS:

  • Hold your package for Will Call at a UPS Customer Center
  • Deliver your package to another address
  • Deliver your package on a different day
  • Return the package to the sender
Note: A fee is assessed for all delivery change requests except Hold for Pickup and Return to sender. You will only be charged upon the redelivery of your package.

UPS My Choice®

Prior to the first delivery attempt, UPS My Choice gives you more flexibility over home deliveries. You'll get proactive delivery alerts telling you your package is on its way and you can manage all your eligible deliveries in an easy-to-use delivery calendar.

As a UPS My Choice Member you can request your package be held for you at a UPS Customer Center to pick up at your convenience, sign for certain packages online, or request your package be delivered to a neighbor.* UPS My Choice also gives you the ability to provide specific delivery instructions for your driver, such as leave package at back door, garage, or with a concierge.

*Note: Neighbor must be within walking distance of the original delivery address.

For an additional $5, you can have your package

  • Delivered to a UPS Access Point™ location
  • Delivered on a different day
  • Delivered to a different address

Return to Sender (Refuse Delivery)

For those occasions when you need to refuse a delivery or request a package be returned to the shipper, it's nice to know you have options.

Return to Sender

  • If you missed the first delivery attempt, your driver probably left a UPS InfoNotice indicating a delivery attempt had been made. Using the UPS InfoNotice, you can choose from up to four delivery change options; Hold for Pickup, Deliver to Another Address, Reschedule Delivery, or Return to Sender. To begin, select the Tracking link below and enter your 12-digit InfoNotice number (found above the bar code) in the Tracking or InfoNotice field, and select the Track button.
  • If the package was delivered to a neighbor or released without a signature and has not been opened, you have five business days from the day of delivery to request a Return to Sender. After five business days you will need to contact the shipper.

Refuse Delivery

  • If you are home at the time of the delivery attempt, you can refuse delivery of the package.

If You're Shipping a Package

UPS Delivery Intercept®

If you're shipping a package and discover it needs to go to a different address, you can request a UPS Delivery Intercept.

A UPS Delivery Intercept lets you maintain control of a package as it moves through the UPS network and can be requested at any time prior to the first delivery attempt.

With UPS Delivery Intercept, you can also request a Hold for Will Call, a different delivery date, or you can have the package returned to the sender.

Note: A fee is assessed for all UPS Delivery Intercept requests except Hold for Will Call. You will only be charged if your intercept request is completed.
