Technical FAQ

What are the minimum system requirements for UPS Internet Shipping?
To create a shipment, you must have an IBM compatible or Apple compatible computer with an Internet connection; Microsoft® Windows 98, 2000, NT, ME, XP, or Vista operating systems; or Apple® Mac OS 8.0 or higher on Apple compatible systems.

Your system must also have one of the following browsers installed (beta versions of browsers are not supported):

Supported Browsers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x
  • Netscape Navigator 7.x
  • Netscape Navigator 8.x
  • Netscape Navigator 9.x
  • Firefox 2.x
  • Opera 9.x
  • Safari 2.x or higher

Note:
Do not access UPS Internet Shipping using Microsoft Outlook. Instead, use a browser that you start from your desktop.

In addition to using one of these recommended browsers, the following options will need to be set:

  • Enable JavaScript
  • Accept Cookies
  • Enable Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology. 128-bit required
  • Enable Graphics
  • Save encrypted pages to disk
  • Adjust page caching to:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer: Every time user starts IE / every visit to page
    • Netscape Navigator: Every time user views page/always

Also, you will need a Hewlett Packard compatible Laser Jet printer, inkjet printer (acceptable quality output for labels is required), or the UPS Thermal Printer (see page 161 for installation instructions) to allow you to print labels.

Finally, you will need to disable all "pop-up killer" software. UPS Internet Shipping uses pop-up windows to display/print labels and receipts.

Why does my browser's back button work intermittently?
UPS Internet Shipping maintains your shipment data throughout your shipping transaction. In order to secure and avoid any loss of your shipment data and provide for a smoother shipping process overall, you should not use the browser's back button but instead use the navigational elements within the Web page, such as the buttons on the UPS tool bar and text links.
