Returning a Package You Received
Managing your returns with ease
If you have ever ordered from a website or catalog, chances are you may have needed to send an item back to the shipper. More and more shippers are providing prepaid return labels to their customers. Shippers understand that their customers are more comfortable purchasing from their website if they have a fair and convenient return policy.

At UPS, shippers have a variety of ways to provide you, their customer, with a return label. They can include the label in the original package, send you an e-mail with a link to the return label, or post a label on their website. But once you receive the label, what do you do? Do you have to pay for the shipping? How do you get the package to UPS? Can you track the package to see when it is received? Let UPS help you learn how to handle your returns needs.


How much do I have to pay?
UPS return labels have a RS, ARS, or RS1 in the upper right corner of the label. Payment for these shipments is already arranged by the shipper, so we will not charge you directly for shipping this package. The shipper, however, may deduct a pre-specified amount from your credit to cover the shipping charges. This amount is usually noted in the return instructions provided.


How do I get my return package to UPS?
Depending on the type of return service used, there are a variety of ways to get your return package to UPS.

All return packages can be given to any UPS driver or taken to any location of The UPS Store®, a UPS Drop Box, a UPS Customer Center, any Office Depot® or Staples® location, or any UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet. There is no charge to drop off a prepaid return package.

Note: UPS Drop Boxes accept packages up to 16" x 13" x 3". Do not leave packages next to the Drop Box.
The UPS Returns® Flexible Access service has a unique shipping label that allows return packages to be dropped off at UPS locations or dropped off at any U.S. Postal Service® (USPS) location including your local Post Office™, your personal mailbox, or you may request a free pickup from the USPS.

The UPS Returns Flexible Access Label Sample below displays both the UPS and USPS logos. Only packages with this label can be dropped off at either a UPS or USPS location.


You can schedule a UPS pickup online at ups.com or call 1-800-PICK-UPS® (742-5877). You will be assessed a pickup fee.

How do I track my package?
Before sending your return package, make sure you write down your tracking number. The tracking number is located in the middle part of the label, and it starts with a 1Z. Tracking a package is easy at ups.com.

When tracking a package, you will be able to see when it is delivered. Or, if the package has not yet been delivered, choose the Get Notified option, and we will send you an e-mail once the package has been delivered.
