You must use the exemption/special permit package corresponding to the class of hazardous material authorized by the exemption/special permit. The manufacturer´s instructions for assembly must be followed completely. This includes using only components that are specifically designed as part of the exemption packaging system.

The package must be stamped by the manufacturer with "DOT-E" or "DOT - SP" followed by the exemption number on the side of the carton. The "DOT-E" or DOT - SP" number must also appear on the UPS Shipping Paper and the Shipper´s Certification indicating that the exemption/special permit applies to this specific shipment of hazardous material.

Finally, UPS requires that a copy of the written DOT exemption/special permit be placed on the package in a resealable pouch.

If "yes" appears in the "Ground Shipments - DOT Exemption/Special Permit or 173.13" or the "Air Shipments - DOT Exemption/Special Permit or 173.13" columns the package must conform to the applicable DOT Exemption/Special Permit or 173.13.
