U.S. Customs & Border Protection has adopted new rules for textile and apparel shipments entering the United States. The new rules require the shipper to report the complete name and address information of the manufacturer for each article within the shipment. The change became effective November 19, 2005, and replaced the former Textile Declaration form. While the Textile Declaration is no longer required, much of its information still must be provided with the export documentation, including the fabric content, whether the article is knit or woven, the weight and dimensions of fabric, and indicate gender for apparel items. Be sure your overseas suppliers are aware of these new rules to ensure your textile and apparel shipments are delivered timely.
