The instructions below will help you through the process of installing a UPS Thermal Printer.


Before Installing the UPS Thermal Printer

Follow these steps prior to installing the UPS Thermal Printer:

  1. Install the UPS Thermal Printer driver.
  2. Install the UPS Thermal Printer plugin or ActiveX control plugin.

An ActiveX control is installed for supported versions of Microsoft® Internet Explorer. A plugin program is installed for supported versions of Firefox.

To create a shipment using UPS Internet Shipping or UPS CampusShip™, please verify that your computer meets the following system and browser requirements:

Operating system

  • An internet-connected PC with Microsoft Windows® XP, Windows Vista® (32 bit), Windows® 7 (32 bit)

Browser

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x or later
  • Firefox 3.0.x or later
  • Safari 4.0.4
  • Google Chrome
  • Opera 10.10

For best results, configure your browser to:

  • Accept graphics
  • Accept cookies
  • Allow JavaScript
  • Enable Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology
  • Save encrypted pages to disk
  • Disable pop-up killer software. UPS Internet Shipping and UPS CampusShip use pop-up windows to display/print labels/receipts and for entering new addresses.

In addition, follow these steps to adjust your page caching in Microsoft Internet Explorer:

  1. In the toolbar, select Tools.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Under Temporary Internet files, select Settings.
  4. Select Every visit to the page.
  5. Select OK then select OK again.

How To Install the UPS Thermal Printer Driver
If you are using an Eltron printer, and you have not installed the printer driver, follow the instructions below. You must install the driver provided below. The driver provided with your printer will not work with UPS Internet Shipping.

Note:  If you are using a Samsung SRP-770 II printer, you must install the printer driver from the CD that was included with the printer. Please refer to your operating system help instructions on how to add/install a printer. Following the instructions below will not install the Samsung printer driver.

Installing the Eltron Thermal Printer

Make sure you have set up your thermal printer equipment, cables and thermal labels as described in your UPS Thermal Printer documentation.

The following instructions will help you download and install the UPS Thermal Printer driver program (UPS_319_117.EXE) to your selected directory.

  1. Select the Download the UPS Thermal Printer Driver link below.
  2. When prompted by the File Download - Security Warning dialogue box to choose Run, Save, or Cancel, choose Run. When prompted by the Unknown Publisher Security Warning, "Are you sure you want to run this software?", choose Run.
  3. Select Unzip to extract the files.  Once files are extracted, select OK and then select Close to close the window.
  4. Navigate to C:\UPSDrivers and double-click the file setup.exe to start the Installation Utility.
  5. Select the language to install.
  6. When prompted, select the Printer Interface you will be using, then click Next.
  7. USB Connection or Other Connection  and click Next. You will be prompted to choose your printer model from a list. Click Next after choosing your printer model and the driver will install.

Once the appropriate files are installed, your printer is ready to use.

How To Install the UPS Thermal Printer Plug-in or ActiveX Control Program
Follow these instructions if you have already installed the UPS Thermal Printer driver.

The following instructions will help you download and install the UPS Thermal Printer plug-in or ActiveX control to your selected directory. An ActiveX control program is installed for supported versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  1. Select the Download the UPS Thermal Printer Plugin or ActiveX Control Program link below.
  2. When prompted by the File Download - Security Warning dialogue box to choose Run, Save, or Cancel, choose Run. When prompted by the Unknown Publisher Security Warning, "Are you sure you want to run this software?", choose Run.
  3. You will receive an alert if a compatible browser is detected. Click OK to install the appropriate files.
  4. After the install is complete, close all browser windows and open a new browser window.

How To Install the Printer Drivers Using the Installation Utility
  1. Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers.
  2. Run the setup.exe utility.
  3. Select the language to install. Currently, English is the only choice.
  4. Follow the prompts to select the printer model and port that you will be using.
  5. The Utility will install the appropriate files and then run the Configuration Wizard to help you configure your new driver.
  6. When the Install/Configure Wizard is complete, your new driver will be installed and ready for use.

How To Install the Windows XP and Windows Vista Printer Driver
Microsoft® Internet Explorer users may keep the UPS Create a Shipment session open when downloading and installing the Windows XP and Windows Vista printer driver.

  1. Select the Start menu on the Windows taskbar. Select Settings, and then select Printers.
  2. Select the Add Printer icon twice.
  3. Specify whether this printer will be a Local or Network printer. Do not select to have Windows Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. Select Next.
  4. The next screen displays all Available Ports. Select the appropriate printer port checkbox, and then select Next. A screen listing printer manufacturers and printer models displays.
  5. Select Have Disc. The Install From Disc dialogue box displays. The Copy manufacturer´s files from the drop-down list defaults to drive A:\.
  6. Delete the A:, and then select Browse.
  7. Navigate to c:\UPSDrivers, and then select Open.
  8. Select zsd.inf, and then select Open.
  9. Select OK.
  10. Select the appropriate UPS Thermal Printer, then select Next.
  11. Name your printer using the appropriate printer model number (for example, UPS Thermal 2442). Select Next.
  12. You are asked whether you want to print a test page. Select No (do not print a test page). You will print a test page later, using UPS Create a Shipment.
  13. Select Finish.
  14. A Hardware Warning error box appears. This error message states that Microsoft has not tested the UPS Thermal Printer for compatibility with Windows XP. UPS has tested the UPS Thermal Printer for compatibility with Windows XP and has printed shipping labels successfully. Select Continue Anyway to complete the installation.
