Enhanced Screening of Import Non-document Shipments

With immediate effect, South Korea Customs will tighten the screening of shipment/consignee information on low value non-document import shipments below US$100 in value, as well as under-declared shipments.

Non-compliant shipment documentation may result in customs clearance delays. In addition, with effect from 1 July 2009, the authorities will implement a penalty fee of up to US$ 200 per infringement.

Examples of unaccepted entries:

  • Inaccurate or incomplete consignee name and address.

    The consignee address must consist of the building name, street address and area information as seen in this sample address:

    UPS Korea,
    10F Central Plaza Bldg,
    321-6 Shinjeong-Dong,
    Yangcheon-Gu,
    Seoul, Korea

  • Only full names of consignees are permitted, initials are not allowed.
    Unacceptable:  J.J. Yu
    Acceptable: Jung Ja Yu

  • Inadequate descriptions
    Unacceptable: samples/ part/ replacement/ ref nos
    Acceptable: Men's 100% cotton woven shirts

  • Consolidated value of items in package.
    Unacceptable: USD135 for 2 pcs of pen and 5 pcs of books
    Acceptable: Itemized values -- 2 pcs of pens at USD 5 each
                                                5 pcs of book at USD25 each

  • Underdeclared or miskeyed shipment value.
    Unacceptable: Actual invoice value is USD1,000.00 but submitted as USD100.00

  • Wrong or missing consignee, or invalid phone/mobile numbers.
    Unacceptable: 000000, 111111, 999999, 123456, N/A
