Singapore , September 22, 2009 - UPS (NYSE: UPS) is rolling out a new downloadable package tracking tool that combines fun with functionality via the UPS Widget™, making it easy for customers to get automated shipment tracking alerts, send status updates to their customers and receive news via RSS in an engaging way.
UPS Widget tracks both inbound and outbound shipments for senders and receivers using UPS Quantum View Notify® technology to prompt shipment exceptions and delivery notifications. This free tool also delivers information about UPS services and promotions directly to the desktop. For example, UPS Widget can display video.
Users can store up to 75 tracking numbers at a time and access quick links to calculate time and cost and process shipments on ups.com. RSS feeds can also be customized. Enhancements to UPS Widget include proactive notifications, color coding for quick viewing of shipment status and the ability for users to unlock different characters through UPS promotions. This version now is also available to MAC users.
"At UPS, we continually find ways to enhance customer experience. With UPS Widget, we are reaching out to customers who prefer a simpler and friendlier online user experience," says Gillian Sim, Managing Director of UPS Singapore.
"UPS Widget is perfect for the small shipper or receiver not yet ready for our more sophisticated tracking tools but wanting the convenience of tracking from their desktop," adds Gillian. UPS created the tool to be most useful to front-office personnel handling infrequent shipping tasks within small- to medium-sized businesses, but customer feedback indicates UPS Widget is enjoyed by a broader audience.
UPS Widget is easy to install on a PC or a MAC and directions can be found at a new website, ups.com/widget. For existing myups.com customers, no additional registration is necessary and the same user ID and password can be used to download UPS Widget. For new customers, registration is simple and quick, and allows UPS Widget to send more relevant custom messages.
Visitors also can configure a UPS Widget character and submit it to a worldwide gallery so Widget fans can see activity across markets.
Introduced in France, Germany and the United Kingdom in 2007, UPS Widget was created to connect cross-culturally. The tool already has been downloaded about 180,000 times and the site has received millions of visits, helping thousands of customers track packages and save time receiving shipping information. Beginning this week, UPS is making the enhanced widget available in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea.
