UPS helps nurture Singapore's Logistics and Supply Chain Management talent
SINGAPORE, 13 February 2008 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced a scholarship grant of US$82,000 to The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific at the National University of Singapore for four scholarships offered by the Dual Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management program. The program is administered through The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific, a partnership between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Georgia Institute of Technology, with additional funding from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The source of funding for the scholarship grant is The UPS Foundation. Founded in 1951, this charity arm of UPS is committed to improving the quality of life in communities where UPS employees live and work, often through grant programs and initiatives. Last year, The Foundation donated nearly US$46 million to charitable organizations worldwide.
"This is our fourth scholarship donation to The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific since 2001. We have seen four students graduated from the Dual Masters Program and work for UPS since then. With this year's grant, four new students will benefit from the scholarship," said Ken Torok, President, UPS Asia Pacific.
"Our partnership with UPS on the Dual Master Program is an important part of NUS' ongoing collaboration with the industry. This is also a unique program where graduates receive two separate Masters from two top universities. Not only will students earn dual Masters that is sponsored, they will also receive valuable working experience from a market leader like UPS," said Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost. Prof Tan is also the Chairman of The Logistic Institute - Asia Pacific Advisory Board.
Graduates of the Dual Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management will receive a Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from NUS, and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
