CO2 Compensation Programme Expanded Internationally
Press Release

Moscow, 9 August, 2010 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) has expanded its CO2 offset program; now it is available in 35 more countries of Europe, Asia, and South and Central America. Now millions more UPS's clients will be able for a small fee to calculate and offset the carbon emissions associated with their shipments delivery.

UPS became the first small-package delivery company in the USA to offer the carbon neutral programme to its clients. This programme, introduced last autumn in the USA, is based on the UPS's sustainable development strategy and meets the demands for eco-friendly products. The new offering, including an ability to sign a contract with the customers who want to compensate their carbon emissions for all their shipments, is available starting July 12, 2010.

Besides entering the international markets, UPS is significantly expanding the programme's area of coverage in the United States, making it available to all the shippers who use UPS.com, as well as for those customers who use interactive system UPS CampusShip. The online retail companies, who have integrated UPS tools into their websites, will also be able to offer their clients an opportunity to offset carbon emissions when delivering their shipments using UPS. Those clients who visit reception centres, such as The UPS Store® or other centres, will also have an access to this option soon.

In the United States the fee is $0.05 for a ground package, $0.20 for an air package, and $0.75 for an international package. Outside the United States the fees will vary slightly depending on the country, type of the package, as well as the origin and destination of the shipment.

Initially UPS was offsetting carbon emissions through participation in Garcia River Forest Climate Action Project, which was launched by The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund. In the future, UPS is going to offset carbon emissions in other parts of the world.

"Our customers needed a convenient, cost effective and viable way to solve the problem of global warming", said Bob Stoffel, senior vice-president, responsible for UPS's sustainability programme.

"To use the new service, our clients simply have to tick a box when completing an order", he added. During 2010 the company will spend up to $1 m. to purchase offsets.

The calculation of the carbon emissions (CO2), associated with the package delivery, is based on the current and historical data, including distance and transport mode and a comprehensive carbon inventory.

UPS's proprietary calculation methodology is certified by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). In addition, the carbon offset procedure is certified by The Carbon Neutral Company. The offset calculation is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which is the most widely used international standard for carbon accounting.

When a client makes a decision to compensate carbon emissions for the shipment, UPS calculates the supposed carbon impact and purchases 'certified offsets' on the client's behalf. UPS aims to purchase offsets, certified to the "Gold Standard", "Voluntary Carbon Standard" and "Climate Action Reserve".

Now the opportunity to compensate carbon emissions, besides the USA, is offered in 35 more countries, including: Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, China and Macau.

UPS unleashes the concepts of sustainable development worldwide through increasing operational efficiency, implementing industry-leading innovations and realization of environmental conservation initiatives, designed to preserve the nature resources.
