In addition to the regular shipping costs associated with your UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.® shipment, UPS will impose a surcharge for each shipment to the United States. You can calculate the charges using the Additional Charges table.

UPS handles your payment collections immediately upon delivery and delivers them promptly to you for an additional charge.

Verbal Confirmation of Delivery
A charge is assessed per request for Verbal Confirmation of Delivery of a UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.® shipment.

Invalid Tracking or Refund Request Charge
UPS reserves the right to assess the shipper a charge per request for package-tracking or shipping-charge refund, subject to the following conditions:

  • This charge will not be assessed for the first 50 package-tracking requests per calendar week, or for a quantity of package-tracking requests equal to less than 20 percent of the shipper's package volume for that week, whichever is greater.
  • This charge may be assessed for shipping-charge refund requests when the shipment in question was actually delivered in accordance with the UPS Service Guarantee.

Over Maximum Limits
Packages with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds (70 kg), or that exceed 108 inches (270 cm) in length or a total of 165 inches (419 cm) in length and girth combined, as measured to determine their billable weight, are not accepted for transportation. These packages are subject to an Over Maximum Limits surcharge, in addition to all other applicable charges, if found in the UPS small package system.

Large Package Surcharge
A Large Package Surcharge will be applied to each UPS package when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches (330cm), but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches (419cm).

Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (40kgs) in addition to the Large Package Surcharge.

An Additional Handling charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied.

Proof of Delivery
UPS will provide a fax transmission as proof of delivery of a shipment upon request at an additional charge.

Residential Delivery
A residential delivery is one made to a home, including a business operating out of a home, which does not have an entrance that is open to the public. For each residential delivery, an additional charge per shipment applies.

Return Services
UPS Returns and UPS Returns Plus services, including the return of a UPS-compatible package using UPS Ground Call Tag, Electronic Call Tag, printed label for the return of a UPS-compatible package, Print and Mail Return Label, Electronic Return Label, 1 UPS Pickup Attempt, and 3 UPS Pickup Attempts, are available to users of UPS WorldShip® and UPS-compatible systems for an additional charge.

Large Package Surcharge
A package is considered a "Large Package" when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches, but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches.  An Additional Handling Charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied.

Delivery Area Surcharge
A Delivery Area surcharge applies to each package delivered to a residential rural area, residential super rural area, commercial rural area, or commercial super rural area.

An additional charge applies for UPS Guaranteed Ground Documents with same day pickup request.

Additional Handling Charge
Additional Handling applies to the following:

  • Any article that is encased in an outside shipping container made of metal or wood
  • Any cylindrical item, such as a barrel, drum, pail, or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container
  • Any package with the longest side exceeding 60 inches (152 cm) or its second-longest side exceeding 30 inches (76 cm)
  • Any package with an actual weight greater than 70 pounds (32 kg)
  • Each package in a shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 70 pounds (32 kg) and the weight for each package is not specified on the source document or the UPS automated shipping system used

Additional Handling will not be assessed to packages qualifying for a Large Package Surcharge.

UPS also reserves the right to assess the Additional Handling Charge for any package that, in UPS's sole discretion, requires special handling.

Address Correction
If a mistake has been made in the address, we will make every reasonable effort to find the correct address and deliver the shipment if it is within the same destination country. An additional charge for this service will be billed to the shipper. You can view the address correction charges in the Additional Charges table.

For time-critical shipments, Saturday Delivery service is available at an additional charge.

Declared Value
By declaring a higher value on the UPS source document or the UPS shipping system used, and paying an additional charge, you can increase our limits of liability up to the declared amount with a maximum of USD50,000 per package, or the equivalent in local currency.

Disbursement Fee
In order to expedite customs clearance, UPS may advance duties and taxes on behalf of the payer. You can calculate the charges using the Additional Charges table.

Dangerous Goods
UPS accepts dangerous goods for transportation only as a contractual service domestically within and between all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Internationally, UPS accepts dangerous goods for transportation only within and between defined service areas. Please contact your local UPS office for additional information.

Missing or Invalid Account Number Fee
An account number is invalid if it is not the correct account number for the bill-to party, or if it is the account number for a consignee or third party who fails to pay the shipping charges.

  • A charge per shipment will be assessed for domestic (if available) and international shipments with a missing or invalid payor account number. Additionally, if the consignee or third party fails to pay the shipping charges, the original shipper will be billed a refusal fee plus the shipping charges.

Undeliverable Package
Domestic packages that have been rejected by the consignee, or which cannot be delivered due to causes beyond the control of UPS, will be returned to sender. Transportation and fuel charges will apply for the return.

International packages rejected by the consignee, or that cannot be delivered due to causes beyond the control of UPS, will be held by UPS. The shipper will then be contacted for further instructions. The UPS service guarantee does not apply to Undeliverable Packages that are returned to the sender.

Duty & Tax Forwarding Surcharge
Shipper pays a destination country's duty and tax, as well as all shipping charges. This occurs whenever duties and taxes are billed outside the destination country.

Receiver or Third Party Refuses to Pay
This charge applies when the Bill Receiver or Bill Third Party option has been selected and the bill-to party refuses to pay the shipping charges. A processing fee per shipment will be charged to the shipper, in addition to the shipping charges and other amounts payable when non-payment occurs. You can calculate the fees using the Additional Charges table.

Extended Area Surcharge
UPS provides a collection and delivery service in extended areas, as well as in urban areas. An additional charge applies for each shipment that is collected or delivered in an extended area.

UPS Worldwide Express Plus
In addition to the regular shipping costs associated with your UPS Worldwide ExpressSM shipment, UPS will impose a surcharge for each shipment to the United States, Asia, Canada, and Europe. You can calculate the charges using the Additional Charges table.

Delivery Confirmation Signature Required (DCSR)
When the customer selects this service, the driver will require a signature in order to complete the delivery. For this service, an additional charge per shipment applies.

Delivery Confirmation Adult Signature Required (DCASR)
The driver will require the signature of an adult at least 18 years of age at the time of delivery. If no adult is available, UPS will make a second and third delivery attempt. An adult signature is required when shipping international special products, such as tobacco and alcohol. For this service, an additional charge per shipment applies.

Shipper's Export Declaration (S.E.D.)
UPS can prepare and file a Shipper's Export Declaration on behalf of the shipper when all data required is provided and UPS obtains proper Power of Attorney. You can calculate the charges using the Additional Charges table.

A surcharge will be applied for each early pickup request.

Remote Area Pickup
An additional charge may be required for remote area collections or difficult to access. The fee is based on specific origin and/or destination country requirements and may apply to imports and/or exports to be charged to the consignee.

Clinical Trial - Dry Ice
The transportation of non-hazardous biological materials consisting of human or animal specimens for clinical trials, research or diagnosis, are accepted on a contract basis only. For transportation of these specimens, carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice), is accepted as it is used to keep temperature-sensitive products cold or frozen while in transit. For more information with these type of shipments, please contact your Account Executive.

There will be a charge for each additional Shipping Notice (sent by fax). This charge is available only for users of UPS WorldShip™ shipping system.

Split Duty and Tax
This charge applies when customs duties and taxes are billed separately. The fee covers the costs associated with billing duties outside the country of destination. For more details, consult the UPS Rate and Zone Guide.
