On April 6th 2008, Dutch customs will introduce the Direct Representation
system. In this new system the responsibility of handling customs clearance is
no longer held by the transporter, but by the exporter. An exporter can
authorise an intermediary or Direct Representative to take care of customs
procedures, in which case all customs declarations are handled by an external
customs broker or by UPS.
To continue handling your customs clearance procedures as accurately and
swiftly as in the past, we will need a Power of Attorney from the exporter to
authorise UPS as his Direct Representative.
If we do not hear otherwise, we assume that you authorise UPS to be your
Direct Representative acting on your behalf for all future shipments.
Should you prefer to authorise another customs broker as your Direct
Representative, please inform your UPS contact person.
To learn more about this issue, we advise you to contact Dutch customs on
0800-0143 or via http://www.douane.nl. The
Brochure on Direct Representation can be downloaded from http://www.douane.nl/zakelijk/directe-vertegenwoordiging/download/.
