RM 155,000 will set up computer labs for the disabled at Selangor Cheshire Home
Kuala Lumpur, 8 May 2008 - The UPS Foundation which prides itself on its current sustainability initiatives and being a responsible corporate citizen, today announced their donation of RM 155,000 towards the Selangor Cheshire Home which will fund the establishment of a computer lab complete with printing services.
The Selangor Cheshire Home is a centre of excellence that provides the opportunity for the disabled to acquire specific skills to establish a stable economic activity that will in turn generate a steady source of income. The Home, a strong community pillar that has been involved in aiding the physically handicapped in the country for the past forty five years, is home to fifty residents of all ages ranging from twenty five to seventy five years of age.
The computer lab is equipped with computers, LCD projectors, printers and scanners, digital cameras and other assistive devices that will assist the disabled residents gain knowledge of typing, bookkeeping, and the use of softwares to ensure that the residents are able to gain employment or even start up their own business.
"Throughout our history at UPS, we've found that we grow by investing not only in our business, but also in the communities we serve. Our collaboration with the Selangor Cheshire Home is one of many that has allowed UPS to contribute to the communities we serve. In the last two years alone, the UPS Foundation has donated over RM 300,000 to help improve the economic, educational and social welfare of single mothers and fathers in the state of Pahang," says Vivian Chuah, Managing Director of UPS Malaysia.
"Contribution by The UPS Foundation will bring the Selangor Cheshire Home closer to our aim of empowering the disabled by enabling them to contribute and integrate with the society at large by equipping them with the right skills, "says Puan Khatijah Sulieman, Chairman of the Selangor Cheshire Home.

About the Selangor Cheshire Home Established in 1963, the Selangor Cheshire Home has opened its doors to the physically handicapped in the country. Today it is home to fifty residents of all ages ranging from twenty five to seventy five years of age.
