What is an Alternate Tracking Number?
An alternate tracking number is a secondary tracking number for a shipment that provides more detailed information on the shipment as it is en route. UPS may generate an alternate tracking number for a variety of reasons, such as when a package cannot be delivered to the receiver and is returned to the shipper, when the service level for a shipment changes, or if the shipment crosses an international border as a return shipment.
