Tokyo, September 9, 2009 - The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A, NYSE: UPS) the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain solutions, has donated 41,910 US Dollars and 30 UPS Original Tote Bags to the non-profit organization (NPO) "Never-ending International work Camps Exchange (NICE)" as well as 5,000 US Dollars and 20 UPS Pilot Teddy Bears to the NPO, "Fujimino International Cultural Exchange Center (FICEC)."
Brian Cusson, Senior Vice President of UPS North Asia District comments, "UPS is committed to contributing to the society through hands-on, community based services such as volunteers and donations."
Established in 1990, NICE is an NPO that organizes Japan-centered voluntary activities such as participatory work camps in the areas of environmental protection, public welfare, and community improvement. Since 2005, UPS employees have participated as volunteers for environmental protection activities at such locations as the Tokyo Wild Birds Park, Asian Forest in Tanzawa, and Akame no Mori in Mie Prefecture. The donation will help fund a special work camp summit to celebrate NICE's 20th Anniversary next year as well as to produce the "Work Camp White Paper," which reviews NICE's activities and history.
FICEC is an NPO that seeks to create a multi-cultural co-existence town and provides independence support and Japanese language guidance to foreign nationals primarily in Saitama Prefecture's Fujimino City, Fujimi City, and Miyoshi Town. One of FICEC's most important activities is educational support for children of foreign nationality, and the donation was utilized to fund a special summer education camp in Miyazaki Prefecture this August, where children had the opportunity to continue their studies throughout their summer vacation as well as familiarize themselves with nature through disciplined outdoor activities.
The UPS Foundation, located in Atlanta, Georgia, was founded in 1951, and identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impact social issues. Based on this principle, The UPS Foundation's global giving focus now addresses five areas: community safety, nonprofit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, environmental sustainability, and diversity. In 2008, the UPS Foundation donated a total of 46.8 million US dollars to more than 4,800 NPOs around the world.
