"UPS Over 100 Years of History" Exhibition also on display
Tokyo, August 24, 2009 -UPS Japan (Tokyo, Minato-ku), a subsidiary of UPS (Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A, NYSE: UPS), the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain solutions, partnered with Kansai International Airport to hold "KIX KIDS PROGRAM -WakuWaku KIX Tour Plan - Special Course" on August 22. The KIX KIDS PROGRAM is an experience-based learning opportunity for elementary school children on summer break. The event exceeded its expected number of participation of 78 children and 95 parents attending on the day totalling 173 participants.
At the event, the children attended the "UPS International Logistics Class," where they learned about international logistics and the UPS business after being treated to a special buffet lunch. The children had the unique experience getting an inside peek at international trade including a guided tour around the airport, the airport ramp and inside a stationed UPS cargo plane.
"I was surprised to see that the inside of a cargo plane was so different from a passenger aircraft," and "The plane looked so much bigger when looking up closely from the ground," were some of the thrilled remarks made by the participating children.
"By providing the children with the opportunity to see the inner working of global trade, something quintessential to everyday lives, UPS hopes to give Japanese children a global perspective to help them succeed in the future," said Yoshiki Mizokuchi, President, UPS Japan.
Additionally, from August 1 to September 6, 2009, UPS is holding a "UPS Over 100 Years of History" exhibition at the airport's observatory hall where rare UPS items are on display. These items include posters depicting UPS airplanes' history and operations, models of UPS cargo planes and delivery trucks and commemorative items from UPS's various Olympics sponsorships. The children who attended the event also visited the exhibit at the end of the program, and looked at the model cargo airplanes which they had just boarded. As of August 24, the exhibition attracted 50,000 visitors.
