Customers in Tokyo, Saitama and Yokohama to enjoy improved delivery time and extended cut-off time
January 31, 2008, TOKYO -- UPS (NYSE: UPS), the world's largest package delivery company and global leader in supply chain services, has upgraded its Shinkiba Pickup and Delivery Center with expanded infrastructure and services. Now known as the UPS Shinkiba Hub, the facility will also offer import brokerage services for shipments to the metropolitan area.
By moving brokerage services that was previously provided at a Narita Airport warehouse to the Shinkiba Hub which is nearer central Tokyo, UPS reduces the cargo flow process by one step and is able to shorten delivery times to its customers, especially in the Tokyo, Saitama, and Yokohama areas. In line with the facility's expansion plans, a bonded warehouse for the warehousing of shipments before customs clearance has also been added to the facility, thereby doubling the hub's premises. Other new additions aimed at enhancing services for customers include automated sorting rollers and loading and unloading docks that can accommodate 10-ton trucks.
Said Yoshiki Mizokuchi, Representative Director and Vice President of UPS Japan, "The upgrading of our Shinkiba Center to a hub is part of our strategy to provide total integrated logistics solutions. By streamlining brokerage and bonded logistics services at our Shinkiba Hub, we will see vast improvement in operation efficiency, which will translate into enhanced customer service and cost savings for UPS customers.
