As chief operating officer for UPS and president of UPS Airlines, John Beystehner directs all operations worldwide and a sophisticated global transportation network, including the ninth largest airline in North America. He oversees the pick-up and delivery of 13.6 million packages and documents daily to a service area that includes every address in the United States, as well as to over 200 countries and territories. John also serves as UPS's corporate compliance officer.
Beystehner joined UPS as a part-time audit clerk in 1971 while attending Boston College. He graduated in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in finance and entered full-time management at UPS. Beystehner went on to attend Suffolk University Law School, receiving his law degree in 1977.
Between 1973 and 1982, Beystehner was involved in all phases of UPS's package operations. He has also held various positions in marketing, sales and air operations. As operations manager for UPS Airlines, Beystehner was heavily involved in the legal and regulatory aspects associated with the company's air operations including aircraft acquisitions, the decision and implementation of UPS becoming an airline, obtaining route authority for the airline and labor negotiations.
Prior to his current position, Beystehner served as the senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. Under his direction, UPS launched its largest and most aggressive advertising campaign - What Can BROWN Do For You?SM He also led his teams to institute one of the largest and most complex branding initiatives in all of corporate history, changing the UPS logo for the first time in over 40 years. Beystehner has been a member of the UPS Management Committee since 1999.
Beystehner resides in Alpharetta, Ga., with his wife Anne and their three children.
